Oh, yes.  Being able to use 8 men to grind a genoa through a tack faster is now being done on all of the  olympic dinghies .
The point was more about the materials, design & testing. Whilst the exact product may not trickle to you treacle, the design methodology & materials certainly do....

If you read the original thread we recognised that there would be material connections to modern yachts.  The generic yacht will receive very little from the AC. Racing yachts certainly will.  Cost is one of the major factors reducing the trickle down because it is exotic stuff.

Thanks. So this is the current set-up. Does anyone have a photo or 2 that highlight the 'keel changes' that were spotted a page or 2 back?

C-techs inflatable spinnaker sniffer is a direct result of the C-tech inflatable headsail battens developed for the 07 cup, & yes we find those on “generic” yachts, but most things will only be found on new boats, unless you spend the money to retrofit an old shitter.

So well known we will all update our shitters. You seem angry about something. Anarchy is a good place to get it off your chest.

It was a gentle arc and now it is completely flat with a bit more material added to the part nearest the rudder.

Completely disagree.  I cant wait to watch good old sail handling with men grinding winches not generators. It is an abortion. Nothing wrong with these. The future of the AC will have less challengers if  it amounts to putting a rocket on the moon.
You only need one challenger!

I did not see any spy boats following along.  Is this new or am I missing something.
All the spies were over on the other course taking in the major performance enhancing modifications that the Frackers have recently made not that the intel will of any use though as they are uncopiable.

Unless you want to make it a commercial venture that gives continuity of employment to all the sailors and team members. Then you need to have lots of teams, lots of races, lots of 'exciting' races, lots of TV coverage.

Such a competition has been the holy grail for a while now. The big problem being, to get lots of teams you need a design that is relatively simple to design and construct. To gets lots of viewers and 'exciting' races you need a design so extreme parts of it need to be one design.

It's been asked since, well, only recently:

Q: Should the AC be considered a commercial venture in the first place? At the end of the day the result is always: Rich guy wins sailboat race that a few people watched...

'Holy grail of competition' with 'exciting races'? That's not going to be this AC - sorry. More like:  25 minute races with multi minute finishing gaps, virtual boundaries that force tactics/penalties, zero sail handling which requires only a few of the crew to actually know how to sail!

It's 93.164% a designers game! Always has been...

Let the AC be the AC!

As for needing to be extreme to get lots of viewers - see first question? Then watch SailGP.
