Texas is now the Oprah state - you get a gun and you get a gun and you get a gun and everybody gets a gun and you can carry it almost everywhere.

No license required. Because government can't tell you what to do, unless you get pregnant, then well, fuck you. Or you want to vote.

Sounds like the best way to get an abortion in Texas is to have someone shoot you in the fetus.

Elon really wanted all his folks to be there. Yet he found it difficult to recruit engineers, and had to re-open engineering in Cali.

The limiting factor is not engineering in general but rather the type of engineer and background - in this case, the right flavor of chem Es/ Mat Sci - particularly corrosion and polymer science / and EEs with power electronics background that have practical experience in batteries/fuel cells.

Those technical communities have never been that big and there's really only a couple of places that been around long enough to actually have a base to pull from. Combine that to where the VC money lives, and you're basically talking about the bay area and Boston as the two primary hubs with several feeder communities including research triangle in North Carolina, NE Ohio (i..e, Case Western), and few others.

Ironically, particulalry relative to the other thread on Taxes, the democratic governor of Massachusetts is driving through a capital gains tax CUT and an estate tax CUT through the democratic legislature. As "deep blue as they come" politicians are actually CUTTING taxes that benefit the wealthy - for expressed purpose of trying to keep more money folks in town.

I think both of these are examples of where ideology runs up against math. There are limits. Musk may want to live in Austin but there aren't that many tech folks there. And some people actually have to come to work and build shit, at least occasionally. Eventually, people DO get tired of paying taxes and if you have enough money, you don't HAVE to stay put.

Apparently it is now legal to shoot people from your car. This is absurd.

...
Less than 24 hours after a jury in Austin found Daniel Perry guilty of shooting to death a protester, Gov. Greg Abbott announced on social media Saturday that he would pardon the convicted killer as soon as a request "hits my desk."

The unprecedented effort, which Abbott announced to his 1 million followers on Twitter, came as Abbott faced growing calls from national conservative figures such as Fox News host Tucker Carlson and Kyle Rittenhouse, who was acquitted in the shooting deaths of two Wisconsin protesters in 2020, to act to urgently undo the conviction.

“Texas has one of the strongest ‘Stand your ground’ laws of self-defense that cannot be nullified by a jury or progressive district attorney,” Abbott said in a statement. “I will work as swiftly as Texas law allows regarding the pardon of Sgt. Perry.”

...more.

Rittenhouse Rules: White guy shoots black guy, convicted. Somehow they didn't work George Soros into how unfair it is to be guilty by a jury. Gov Abbott immediately jumps in to right this wrong. Killing black guys good, killing fetus bad. sigh:

Perry, an Army sergeant, was working as an Uber driver in Austin on the night of July 25, 2020, when he ran a red light at the intersection of Fourth Street and Congress Avenue and drove into a Black Lives Matter march before stopping.

Garrett Foster, carrying an AK-47 rifle, was among a group of protesters who approached his car. Perry told police that Foster threatened him by raising the barrel of his rifle at him, so he shot him five times with a .357 revolver through the window of his car before driving away.
Perry’s defense team argued that he acted in self-defense, but prosecutors contended that Perry instigated what happened. They highlighted a series of social media posts and Facebook messages in which Perry made statements that they said indicated his state of mind, such as he might “kill a few people on my way to work. They are rioting outside my apartment complex.”

A friend responded, “Can you legally do so?” Perry replied, “If they attack me or try to pull me out of my car then yes.”

Just to paraphrase for some who skip details on a Sunday morning.

White guy, says he feels like killing some protestors.

White guy runs a stop sign, drives into blm protest march.

Black protestor in a group surrounding car, raises ar15 barrel.

White guy goes bam bam bam bam bam from inside the car.

White guy found guilty.

Carlson is outraged.

Abbot promises a pardon.

All white guy wants to do is get back into service.

Fucking disgusting.

If there is anything good to come from this and the others we are seeing constantly is to wake up enough people here to vote all this assholes out of office. Cruz, Abbott, Dan Patrick and Ken Paxton ( how many places have their AG under multiple indictments that they have control over???) and enough asshole congresscritters to give the Ds a majority again. In the state legislature the Rs run amuck with bigtime $$.

It's not if it is when and when needs to be now. Vote Blue in 2024 like your life depends on it.

We are in a cold civil war but only one side is fighting it.

Killing is just part of war. Murder is the killing of a person. Is a dead democRAT really a dead person? We’ve heard the head of The Party refer to the democRAT prosecuting his case as a ”Soros backed animal.” Well, if democrats are such subhuman animals, how can killing them be murder? Hence the pardon.

It’s not just a culture war the good old boys are waging.

Nah, that’s the Austin Chronicle. It’s a little known fact that Soros spent a large portion of his wealth in the 90’s trying to perfect the Chronicle as a delivery mechanism for Titty Bingo bumper stickers. He doesn’t really have that much left.
