As a three time winner of these SA Contests; How fast is it?, What is it? and of course What is it's name?....I have some expertise in the endeavor for swag.
However I have never seen so many rude posters (including this week) on the Flying Tiger Forum.

We have this up and coming race boat designer who is showing you his newest drawings and you insult him with very low estimates of how much his boat would be worth to you. Is a Sailing Anarchy ballcap worth so much to you that you insult this Bob Perry from Washington State home of the famous apples?

Not me!

Since you have such a expansive experience for acquiring SA swag, perhaps you could point Burnsy in the correct direction to finally acquire the half hull he was promised? It's only been over 6 months...

It has been my unfortunate experience with this site that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Funny thing is that I never actually got the swag. Keep in mind when SA started we were worried how Scot and especially DAWG would grow what was really a cause with limited advertising. So the first time I won a hat I sent Scot a twenty. Then the next time was right around when he was doing an auction at SDYC so I just said to give it away at the the charity auction. By the time the third swag win happened I didn't bother and instead just gave Scot grief for not letting us know what the name for the new Flying Tiger was going to be. 13.8 has nothing to do with the length it has to do more with Chinese good fortune and western bad luck. By going with 13.8 it allows Stevens to use something along the lines of "Brings good fortune to you and bad luck for your opponents". Everything in China seems to use 8 these days.

I have ordered some swag and given it away. Everything arrived on time. I had no idea Scot was giving away half hulls. If he starts giving away entire boats I may need to rethink my charity.

It has been my unfortunate experience with this site that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

JS9000 owner by any chance?

As for the announced price of this boat I am taking it with a huge grain of salt. They have redone the design and Bob Perry has been working on it again recently. They are a long way from knowing exactly how much the boat will cost Stevens so I have no idea how anyone expects to hold him to whatever price Scot announces.

If the FT-10 is any indication of price we could see it go up as content increases and the standard gear is upgraded. I already see posts calling for more standard offshore gear including watertight compartments. Next I am sure that we are going to hear calls for things like higher end lines, vara rudder, finished forepeak, lift keel, stove etc, etc. Just like the FT 10 and the carbon mast, after they see their most likely buyers asking for the same thing those options will become standard.

I am sure that the boat will end up being far less expensive than the competition. FT-10's are going for I believe aprox 65K landed in Long Beach without sails and the other gear so I would expect similar savings on this boat. But we are no where near seeing the first production boat leaving China.

So in the spirit of reaching out to strange cultures and peoples, if I win this contest I will ask Scot to send the winning swag to Grumpy. I am sure that we can get an SA sticker through the Indonesian Post Office for a reasonable price.

Nroose:

There is no pint in publishing a preliminary laminate schedule at this time. It would just fire up more endless speculation from the "experts". When we have a final lam sched we will post it. Of course, the final bulb weight will be a function to a great degree of the final lam sched. So posting a bulb weight now would not help much either unless I was interested in more expert speculation. However, you have been supportive in the past so I'll tell you at this point the bulb we have designed weighs 7,100 lbs. But, this will change.

KentH:

You got the name right.

There is no way we could call it the Ft44 and hope to sell any to the Chinese.

There are things they take seriously that we laugh at.

So here are the preliminary drawings for the new Flying Tiger 13.8. Gotta say, it looks pretty nice. In an act of either amazing bravery or stupidity, the builder despite the sucky economy, is going ahead with the project. Good on 'em! Here is the sail plan. Here is the interior.
Let's play a little game - the first one to correctly guess the price for the boat including carbon rig, deck hardware and motor, less sails, electronics, ex yard in China, wins something good from the SA swag bag. Have fun.

My estimate: $38,000 landed USA
