I was surprised by how little of the marker smoke it seemed to inhale. He explains that their power comes from fuel, not from volume of air.

Fuel can’t burn without air. Not enough air in equals compressor stall.

Turbojet engines are thirsty and require lots of fuel…but are compact (smaller diameter)

Turbofans are much more fuel efficient , but are larger in diameter (hang under wing rather the be in fuselage)

But all jet engines are air pumps, and the path to more power requires more air in. You can’t Squeeze, Bang and Blow unless you Suck it in…

Interesting camera perspective on a carrier landing. Not as much input as I thought it would be, but it didn't look windy.

This looks like a pure manual mode pass, so pilot is "hand flying" the jet. 100's of small inputs. Somewhere like 400 plus on a typical pass. In 2016 first version of "Magic Carpet" debuted, and reduced that to like 10-12 control inputs. In 2021, they upgraded it so you can even fly approaches with aircraft failures (like being single engine).

The loss of the F-35C on Carl Vinson was because the pilot thought he had it engaged, and did not. As a result of that loss, engaging ACP/PLC (for F-35)/PLM for F-18 is now a mandatory step in the landing checklist.

Scientists at NASA built a gun specifically to launch standard 4 pound dead chickens at the windshields of airliners, military jets and the space shuttle, all traveling at maximum velocity. The idea is to simulate the frequent incidents of collisions with airborne fowl to test the strength of the windshields.
British engineers heard about the gun and were eager to test it on the windshields of their new high speed trains. Arrangements were made, and a gun was sent to the British engineers. When the gun was fired, the engineers stood shocked as the chicken hurled out of the barrel, crashed into the shatterproof shield, smashed it to smithereens, blasted through the control console, snapped the engineer's back- rest in two, and embedded itself in the back wall of the cabin, like an arrow shot from a bow.
The horrified Brits sent NASA the disastrous results of the experiment, along with the designs of the windshield and begged the U.S. scientists for suggestions.
NASA responded with a one-line memo, "Defrost the chicken."
