The 2023 Aviation Thread

So I actually overcame my short attention span and watched the whole thing. Why did they need a big engine? Seems like a C85 with no electrical system would have been lighter. Why do you need 200+ HP with a nitrous boost to land short?

Because over the top hyperbole draws more eyeball views and sells products!!
Think of Professional Wrestling or Roller Derby...

I maintain you could do that with a stock J3. Especially the takeoff - just need to get it over the edge and trade altitude for airspeed.

Go to any Super Cross race and ask the average Joe why they are there? Chances are it is not to see the race but to see someone crash and burn...

Though I agree, doing it in a Cub, or even a Super Cub, would have had the same outcome, but hey, this is Red Bull. Where is the supercharged energy boost from a Lochhaven Yellow painted 65-horsepower aircraft? You may as well tell adrenalin junkies to drink water.

Without pitchpoling? I dunno.

Ever flown one? Start here; lots of pictures for ya. :):D

We went to Oshkosh in 2021. The STOL competition was cool. Steve Henry, #44, has a Yamaha Snowmobile engine in his aircraft. He scored a 44' takeoff and a 55' landing, both well shorter than the 88' helipad. I don't remember it being very windy that night. And this was summer, so higher density altitude.

Any aviator worth their wings knows them Piper Cubs just about fly themselves. If it weren't for gravity, you would never get the damn things back on the ground!

The old school instructors could alway tell when someone started out in a Cub or any other tail dragger - their stick and rudder skills were pretty well developed..

As simple as they were, there was some complixty to them.

A transparent turbine engine. Not Void Ho.

I was surprised by how little of the marker smoke it seemed to inhale. He explains that their power comes from fuel, not from volume of air.

Perhaps this explains why the latest jet engines, like PWA's Geared Turbo Fan have so much byflow of air rather than into the engine like older models? And I could be full of shit, as I am not an engineer, but I did supply parts to them, in a former position! :ROFLMAO:
