The AC 37 has started, news and rumours

And the RNZYS is 150yrs old this year but their membership & flag officers apparently are ok with letting GD bring their institution into disrepute.
I confess I am confused by the kiwis .  GD won the AC for RNZYC in Bermuda  and then successfully defended the cup this year .

A club representing a nation of 5 million people has defeated challenges from some of the largest and wealthiest nations in the world, and ETNZ did so graciously, congratulating the team they defeated.

How on earth has this brought the institution of RNzYC into disrepute?

Cos if rumours are true they are starting to act worse than Orifice ever did.

My understanding is that much of the ground under the tanks was full of toxic waste and so that had to be remediated at a high cost. That cost was most definitely included.

The works done by the council were not what ETNZ, or the marine community wanted. The plan from ETNZ would have cost slightly more but resulted in 50 % more retained infrastructure in the form of Super yacht facilities, of which Auckland is very short. Instead the council sought to load up cost for which they were liable onto the America's Cup bill, despite a lesser return. There was also a threat of legal action against the council by some very wealthy property developers if they didn't get their own way which definitely influenced the council. In short the council discharged some of their cost & billed it to the America's Cup, despite that diminishing the infrastructure return, and also avoided action from some wealthy bully boys.

You can understand all you want but the tanks were removed, the surface levelled and then paved over.  Remediation awaits!

And that is where my thinking was coming from.
Yep, but remember that with a DoG either side could turn up with ANY boat less than 90 foot at the water line including cat or tri.

Also, the match would be 3 races of a specific length and format 9 months from now.

That's what happened in Valencia in 2010 and San Diego in 1988.

The cost for all the toxic waste remediation was definitely included, even if it has not yet been done. It's possible they ran out of time after taking so long to decide what to do in the first place.

But there is no detail. I am waiting until we actually know what is proposed. We know very little at this point.
Well it's already been printed that they want entry into this cup to be conditional on acceptance of the AC75 being the class for the next 2 cups and that stinks to high heaven.

Now if the press have gotten that wrong, why haven't they been told to correct it by ETNZ?
