Legendary among The Doors fans, the track "Paris Blues", which is considered the band's last unreleased studio recording, will be included in a new compilation of the same name with the track. It will be released exclusively on vinyl with a limited edition of 10,000 copies. The compilation will be released on November 25th.
The original tape of "Paris Blues" was lost, and the only copy left in Ray Manzarek's possession was damaged when keyboardist Pablo's very young son played with the tape recorder in which the tape had been left. According to the compilation's press release, it has now been salvaged thanks to "creative editing".
The musicians themselves could not agree on exactly when this unreleased track was recorded. Whether during the sessions for the album "The Soft Parade" in 1969, or for "LA Woman" in 1971.
At the same time, both Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robbie Krieger did not perceive the melody as particularly interesting. Here is how he wrote about her in his autobiography book “Let's light this night. My Memories Krieger:
It wasn't very good to be on the album. Ray had the only copy left. He left it in the tape recorder, and Pablo began to play with the buttons. The music cuts off abruptly in several places on the recording, and all you can hear is the gurgling sounds that Pablo makes. But even without Pablo's efforts, it's not such a good tune. There's a reason it became an outtake, and why we never worried too much about missing the master. Pablo was probably trying to do us all a favor.
The cover for the Paris Blues collection was drawn by Robbie Krieger himself. Let's add that the record will include two more previously unreleased recordings of The Doors. but already concert. A cover of "Me and the Devil Blues" by Robert Johnson and "I Will Never Be Untrue", which the musicians originally planned to include on the Morrison Hotel album, but changed their minds.
