What a change a two hour nap can make!

Looks like we've repatriated half of the race back in the good ol' USA.

Monohulls narrowing the gap.

Mojo bad tracker?

Where is Bonesaw going? The great outlier, or home?

Dogsmile is now in the open strait.

We Brake For Whales briefly holding second.

Ruf Duck and Pestou cut inside (maybe Mojo too - tracker issues)

It's 3 to 2 monohulls to 'marans in the top 5 positions, 5 to 5 in the top 10.

Ruf Duck seems to be the only boat with AIS capabilities

It's 5 o'clock, time to relocate to the bar...

Brake4Whales also has AIS. Tri's going through Active Pass will likely pick up double digit miles on those going east around East Pt. on Saturna. Tracker standings not based in reality as it appears to be using distance from Victoria? Course to Discovery Passage is NW up the Salish Sea. MOJO tracker back working, and it's a 3 boat race as the tris enter the Salish Sea (Straits of Georgia.)

Flood current flows south to north out Active Pass into Salish Sea. The 3 tris are about to catch that elevator. HRRR is the probably the best model for forecasting winds on Windy. It's gonna be a long night for Eric on PESTOU as its 22 miles to Silva Bay on Gabriola.

The sun goes down on Day1 with Ian Farrier's 30-35 year old designs 1-2-3. Intriguing to wonder if we don't have enough regular-folks' boat innovation going on, or the old Fboats are just ubiquitous and tougher/better than other choices?

Twelve hours in. Sundown was 3 hours ago, dawn 5 hours away. Darkness mystifies, light explains.

Pestou is SOLO!!!
not sure this is the right boat to be shorthanded on for this course, but seems to know what he's doing!

I do adventure racing, and maprogress is one of the better tracking platforms out there. (In fact they are mostly all good these days). There seems to be a glitch between only some trackers updating and the interface. I highly doubt it is the platform, but more likely people with spot trackers down below in the cabin. When we race we have to have them on our shoulderstrap facing the sky.

short on content for day1/first afternoon, but it's dark there now.

would think the Stiletto 27 Bonehaw was a fast boat - but they choose the long way round Orcas Island...that left then almost 40nm behind the leader at the moment....friday 1.18 AM

The Smuggler cat go behind Lasqeth Island - maybe some venturi-effect there?

The wind will fill in from the south and probably give a very tight field into the Campell - interesting... with wind from behind -theres no big advantages for the multis.

Have to say there must be some excellent sailors on Team We Break for Whales to get that much separation from a fairly fast group of monos. Great to see everyone go inside.

much better inside isn't it, although one or two out now would be interesting to follow.

is there an indication on what the conditions will be like at seymour narrows yet for the quick guys?
