I guess it's the "silly point" part that makes us different. Apparently I don't consider the atrocities commited, and still being committed TODAY, against African-Americans to be a "silly point".
if that photo of a swastika was somehow supposed to show your distaste for the atrocities against african americans, you are one fucked up dude...why would you disrespect the death of 6 million people to show your support for another group of oppressed?? that is seriously fucked up...
Your hyper sensitivity and politically correct bull shit is why kids don't know about the shit that you advocate. Your ignorance about means of rhetoric is pathetic.

I suggest you petition the Holocaust Museum in DC to remove any and all swastikas from the premises.

I also invite you, again, to do a bit of research into Aristotle's art of rhetoric.

You are hyper-critical of a guy who is in your corner and then kicking your own ass.

The OP is doing a much better job than you are making the point. STFU.

Shall we take this to a whole new level?

On Halloween, the Ed dresses up in a cassock with collar and a big ass crucifix hanging from his neck as he steers his FT.

http://www.sailinganarchy.com/fringe/2010/straight%20to%20hell.JPG

Now, this crucifix thingy is the icon of those folks who were responsible for the relentless genocide of tens of millions of natives in the Americas since the time that guy with 3 ships bumped into Hispanola in 1492. You'd think the crucifix might be considered rather offensive to the descendants of said native people. Not to mention any surviving descendants of the other millions in the rest of the world that were felled by those following the cross.

No one gave the Ed sheit for this offensive symbolism adorning the Front Page, demanding he take it down, threaten to cry to his sponsors, or generally call him a bad man.

But you display a confederate flag or a swastika (both odious symbols IMO) and the relentless moaning, flaming, gnashing of keyboards, lights up the interweb.

Why?

Because life is complex, full of agendas, vested interests and skewed perspectives.

I don't often reply to these threads... but I've had a few drinks tonight, so I'll type (I'm sure that will be the subject of several responses).

I'm a Jew and a sailor, and I visit SA every morning the moment I get into my office. When i saw this photo, I was initially pretty shocked and a bit offended (even realizing that the emblem is backwards). Then I gave it a bit more thought. First of all, I don't want anyone telling me how to paint my boat or order colors on my sails... so I shouldn't be doing it to anyone else (my boat is mostly light grey and my racing chute is all blue... so I don't think too many people care). I'd be pretty embarrassed to have this type of stuff on my boat (stars and bars or swastikas, even backwards), so I don't plan to copy these ideas, but there's really no accounting for taste. So, once I got to this point, the only thought I have left is, "why is this image featured on the website that I love reading every morning?" It's not as if you're citing some big win or accomplishment of this boat. The General (as I understand) is a pretty successful program, so I can stomach the attention to this boat as legitimate sailing news. But, has this boat accomplished anything (I honestly don't know, I am really asking)? If there's legitimate sailing news behind this boat, then I'd love to read about it, despite the logos. But, I don't get the impression that this is what got it onto the front page. If this boat is just some dog on the course, then featuring it on the SA front page is simply inspiring other morons to gain notoriety with offensive paint jobs rather than successful racing.

That being said, I'll be back on SA tomorrow morning... but I'll be happier in a few days when this image falls off the front page.

Loved the original post since it was making a point. Hate the General Lee since it's just romanticizing our sorry past for sorry dickheads. And Klemperer was seriously the shit.

When you get back in the morning, please read the OP. It is a photo-shop picture with a satirical article that makes a very good point.

Merry Christmas Regards,

what is everyone so upset about? the livery is just a homage to a classic tv show
Hey fucktard, if you're going to take the time to create a sock-puppet in order to agree with yourself, at least try to disguise the similarities in your posts.

Am I the only person who finds the "Stars and Bars" livery on "The General" extremely offensive?

I'm not the OP I am a genuine new member. I'm sorry I find the outrage about the general and the ops post both funny

Are you fucking kidding me? I give Clean more shit than most people here.

Why are you not screaming about 6 million now? You are a fucking idiot who doesn't understand the OP was an argument against bigotry.

Carry your superficial torch, you self aggrandized idiot.

I think people get so upset at Nazi symbolism because it still has great power to this day. We all know that if the banner was unfurled in ...... Great Britain there would be no shortage of followers.
Not true. Alas we have our far-right fuckwit parties but they wouldn't march behind a Nazi banner. If nothing else, such people tend include Germany amongst their hate-targets. More of a problem is they way they have appropriated the British and English flags as emblems.

Returning to the subject, I'm with the OP. "The General's" livery does not resonate well with me. Not exactly unique though. An American calling their boat "Sinn Fein" is about as amusing as my calling one "Al-Qaeda".
