What I show and what you show don't necessarily contradict each other. We both properly document our data sources. Your NEJM data includes more recent data but does seem to match the 2014 data that drew upon (Wikipedia).

I have to wonder how many of the gun homicides in the NEJM data are from school shootings (the main driver of the topic) and how many are from your typical weekend gang violence in cities like Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, NYC, D.C. etc. We need to worry about both, I know. But again, the topic here and across the country is focussed on school shootings.

I also wonder about the NEJM lack of data on preventable hospital errors. My guess is that a journal from the medical profession is going to be reluctant to want to discuss that.

Observation: Until just a few short years ago motor vehicle crash deaths eclipsed all others for kids. I don't recall a hysteria about that or politicians calling for more legislation each time there was a traffic accident. Though looking at the data you presented it seems we all should be getting concerned again about traffic deaths (recent upward trend) and drug overdoses in addition to gun deaths.

I still maintain that changing schools from soft targets to hard targets should be done. Won't help the Chicago killings though.

Sadly it is part of being a free society and a result of the confusing anti traditional America values , anti religion movement , teaching that outlying behaviors are equal to tried and true traditional values in K-16 and infused in both MSM and social media.

I don’t care about the “data” of the rest of the world. They don’t enjoy the personal freedom that we have in the USA. The countries at the laughable “happiest list” are devoid of the human spirit of self determination that is the base for the American people.
In my last days I worked for marine manufacturing company started by a Swedish couple in Sarasota in the early 80’s. At one Christmas party there were 21 flags hanging representing the home countries of the workers. It was extremely satisfying working with these first generation workers and one thing that they had in common was the personal freedom for advancement, risk taking for the chance of personal gain and reward, the fact that they left their home countries and cultures behind to join the American economy and society was heartwarming.

How many hours of contact does a parent have with a child, versus a school? I have to assume vvv did his level best to indoctrinate his children to his own brand of psychosis.

My option for reducing the staggering number of gun deaths is to revert to the traditional method of treating those that commit violent crimes and that is by swift and certain punishment , history shows the way.
