FWIW, that's why, even when I have my science hat on, I'm pretty dubious about "follow the science" and how it's become a trope, rather than a path. At the core, the scientific method is about how - it's a process question. Why and what to do about something is a different question. People know this instinctively.

Could be ugly on Tuesday as the Rs wander back to DC after a long inebriated weekend in the enraged hateful echo chambers of MAGA. There is a week remaining for faux outrage and soundbites.

No, there does not appear to be a centrist bloc that could push the legislation thru. Defections on the D side could balance the few suicidal Rs on the right. But the news today reads like the fight is over....

I think a bill acceptable to all Democrats, minus a dozen or so, -might- just possibly -maybe- garner 25~ish Repub votes. Any bill that is acceptable to more than a slim minority of Repubs is going to be completely unacceptable to any Democrat.

My understanding is that outside the demand for targeted spending cuts, the Repubs have no budget proposal.

IMHO Pres. Biden should use the 14th Amendment hammer.
