An anecdote, considering 46% is a big number, is a drop in the ocean and not indicative of any swing.
Lia Thomas cannot swim professionally at an elite level. Riley Gaines can, but is either choosing not to or isn’t good enough for that level. Riley was an impressive SEC swimmer, yet ”retired” and applied to dental school. She has now delayed dental school to represent biological female athletes.
How did Lia Thomas ruin women’s swimming? Sounds more like Lia gave Riley an post-college career bump in grievance politics.
5 years later, and women's sport still exists. "Sport" (if we can group all into a singular entity) is addressing the possible inequities through rules that are still evolving. Some transgender athletes have competed with success. Others have not. The world has not ended.
But dog's sensibilities have been offended. Rules must be made. People discriminated against. Individuals labeled as abnormal.

Cause DNF... She is 45 years old. At 43 she was the oldest weightlifter to qualify for the games, guess why?
Look at her track record since transition and also at her age. There are no other lifters of that age competing at that level in women's or mens weight lifting. That's only possible because because a male weight lifting record holder decided to come out of retirement and compete with women. There are financial and other incentives and its a zero sum game for the women competing against her.
I have no problems with her transitioning but do have a problem with the unfair advantage she has against biological women.
I would have no problem with her involvement in the sport in any other role but what she did was not sportsmanship.

a Muslim friend once told me that, for years after 9-11, every time there was a national tragedy, the first question her community asked was, “is the perpetrator a Muslim?” and then they would breathe a sigh of relief when it wasn’t because it meant that they could all get on with their lives and not be the focus of increased hatred.
so now the trans community has one more thing to worry about. just fucking great.
in the end, it doesn’t matter who pulls the trigger. what matters is how easy it is to get the trigger into that person’s hands. what matters is that three more children are dead, and our country won’t do a fucking thing to keep this from happening again. and again.

I can kind of understand why the trans kid did that, maybe the scenarios I'm thinking are wrong but there are enough that could drive someone crazy that way, what surprises me is in the land of freegun why haven't there been more of the persecuted picking up an AR and letting it rip.
Well a clear publicized example has been set and I bet more will follow.

Yes, this is a weird one. The shooter seemed to have it together: Good education, career, money, and it seems no affiliation with the school for more than a decade. Not the sort that would (rightly, perhaps) hold a grudge, yet alone a murderous one. Time will tell.
