So, you always wanted to sail a Orma 60? Is this your lucky day, or what ?
Currently in San Diego, her new, and only available slip on the west coast is in Richmond CA.
Time frame starts when I post this wet dream.
Bring your best gear, and a good story of why you want to be cramped, wet, and miserable for 3 days.
Remember it's just a game, the game of life/ should of, could of, and it's never too late to start your childhood.
Not too many rules ;
Rule number one,
Ten fingers, ten toes, safety is mandatory, and will dictate forward motion.
Rule number two, see rule number one.

First come first serve, make your safety pitch, and get to San Diego ASAP.
expect to work on the logistics, running around, surveying for issues, waiting for weather window.

Would love to stop at Catalina island, but wind will determine plans.

Welcome to the game

Cheers,
Stephen

It's show time in San Diego, between now and June 21st.
The anchors need to be picked up, there is a support truck and trailer in Reno, with a generator, dingy, outboard, huge pump.
I will ck tomorrow for a windlass, as the anchors are over 100lbs each.
There is a trader Joe's for provisions
There is a reported hole near the foil in the Port ama
Crew just left NC which will take a couple of days to arrive.
Fuel tanks are full, engine runs well
I have permission to remove her from the navy base , asap
Flying in shortly.

Of course the wife is furious.

Done anything stupid lately?

Nothing so stupid as to make my wife furious. She has permission to push me over the side if I get too cranky.

BTW, we'd both love to do it, but we're delivering one of the R2AK boats back from Ketchikan at that time.

Send me pics of that hole if you want me involved in that repair. I'll review options for repair. I'll be traveling in with G-flex in hand, if it doesn't get confiscated at the airport. Thinking I need to super-size my containers.

it’s in the 4” x 2” range. Gonna need some foam core with slits to replicate the core. Use epoxy because there’s not going to be a way to determine the build resin type. The port foil edge and this hull bottom need a basic diver cleaning to inspect for further damage. I think I already said this to multihuler.

June 19th is when the rescue crew of 4 is showing up in San Diego, I will allow 9 total, as I am sleeping outside, possibly in the dingy.
Safety is first, second, and third.

When is the last time you sailed a Orma 60? It may never happen again for me, so I am going to enjoy every miserable moment.

Day one, we draw straws for who is going to clean the bottom, then
Tilt the mast to make repairs to the ama.
Wind conditions appear light, meaning the main may need to be hoisted all the way up, and
To increase safety running the engine to make a tack won't hurt my feelings, even a little bit.

Following in captain Don's footsteps, I am not going to break any records, just have fun, and of what I have heard about Don
he is a good guy, who had good intentions.

My goal is to save a Orma 60, and share the fun, nothing more, nothing less.

Cheers,
And as a old friend told me, " It is never to late to start your childhood "

What’s the expected sail configuration when blasting through the gate in 20 or 30 knots on the quarter? And can you reef off the wind?

I’m really thinking about joining you if you still have room. And I think those are reasonable questions. But you’re right, it won’t be down wind. So, what sails do you carry to weather in 20 knots?
