11th hour are the favorites, and are living up to it! I would not have thought Enright was up to it. I guess I guess they have done the most prep. I am not sure how many are on board each of the boats for this leg or who is on board which boats. I will be following.

In my defense, 11th hour has 6 listed. Malizia and Guyot have 7 listed. Biotherm and Holcim have 8 listed. Some are onboard reporters, and so I guess some of the crew are not onboard on every leg. Just wanted them to be more clear.

That is correct ie not all of the listed crew on onboard every leg. only 4 plus OBR per leg. Some of the crew lists specify this.

SO they bloody should be. They have spent multiple 10s of millions and built a boat solely for winning this race. Everyone else has the Vendee in mind.
If 11th Hour don't win they have some questions to answer.

It's not like building a house or writing an app. This is a difficult endeavor. Lots of things can go wrong. It's not like you are funding them and can rip into them if they don't win. It's their project and they are doing it for their reasons. The really only answer to themselves. But I hope no matter what, they consider it a rewarding experience.

You are right, it is more like putting together a professional sailing team, building a purpose built boat and having the longest possible run up with the largest budget. If you don't win you need to know why, and so do the sponsors.
You are also right that it is their project and they are doing it for their reasons, but if they are spending all that time and money and don't win they better have bloody good reasons.
I have not said that I expect them to win or not, just that they better have some good excuses if they don't... I won't be asking what they are, but I know some people who will be.

In the wild.
11th hour Racing is a much encompassing project, with winning the TOR as their individual purpose.
Also Paul Meilhat has said right from the moment the Imoca was agreed that he wanted to do the TOR.
The others more or less the same, and all but Team Europe build their boat with the TOR in mind.

And BTW, I always said, or rather hoped, that 11th hour would pull some other teams along, and I'm happy that, despite all that is happening in the world, there is now a real race.

Seems like this just ignores that 11th Hour is really a new team in IMOCA. The other teams seem to each have a history of producing results. It's an ambitious effort, but in no serious endeavor, can you just decide you want to be a dynasty and put in the resources. I am guessing the people involved are clear-eyed about how uncertain success is. And probably that is a big part of the appeal for them.

They are a decade old team in Ocean Racing and have members of their team who have been around IMOCA a lot longer than that. Just because Charlie, Mark and their sponsor are new to IMOCA does not mean the team are.
You could just as easily argue that the IMOCA teams are new to crewed Round the World Racing.
I initially was just responding to your comment that they are the favourites by pointing out that they really should be, as they have put more resource into this race than any of the other teams.

IT IS WITH THE ANGLO-SAXON SKIPPER PHIL SHARP that Black Pepper® Yachts [Nantes - F44] will construct a new IMOCA bound for the next Vendée Globe. The launch of this boat, of which Black Pepper® Yachts will also be Co-owner, is scheduled for summer 2023; allowing good time to train before the start of the next Transat Jacques Vabre, the first major race for this boat.

It is again a Sam Manuard design, and if she is in line with its predecessors built by the shipyard (Bureau Vallée 3 ex. l'Occitane en Provence - 2019, and Initiative Cœur - 2021) , it will nevertheless be very different from the latter with numerous technical modifications, in particular to her hull shape.

Black Pepper® Yachts Builder, Sam Manuard Architect, Phil Sharp Skipper, together pursue the common goal of building the most efficient boat possible, but also of being part of a virtuous and sustainable approach by developing original solutions designed to limit the latter's carbon impact; it is for this purpose that all the boat's molds have been made by recycling and re-machining old moulds, that many parts will be built from bio sourced materials and finally that the energy on board will be supplied by a hydrogen fuel cell.
This pioneering IMOCA will also be the first to replace fossil fuels with a zero emission energy system. The OceansLab IMOCA will exclusively use hydrogen fuel cell technology, thanks to a ‘Hydrogen Power Module’, created and developed by the team at Genevos, where Sharp, who has a passion for renewable energy innovation, is a co-founder.

L'architecte

The architect

Sam Manuard,

Sam Manuard,
With more than 10% of the fleet which will be taking the start of the next Vendée Globe, Sam, both architect and racer, designer of boats with eloquent track records, confirms with this new boat the relevance of his avant-garde architectural choices – scow bow -, which he was originally in 2019 the first one to design with IMOCA L'Occitane en Provence.
