The Merits of a J9

Geez, I never realized all those folks who race Lasers are lame :cautious:
Geez, you know exactly what is meant.
The J/9 is a ridiculous proposition at this price point, especially if it needs to be transported. Interior makes no sense, the layout is a joke. Saffier, Domani, Pointer, Tofinou, the list of superior offerings is quite long.

I do, and was being a bit facetious...

However, I respectfully disagree with you in this case. I spent a good couple hours on the boat with Alan J, and I really like it. He's got hull 27, so that means they are selling pretty well. But I also think that if we were all to like the the same boat, or same types of designs, the world would be a boring place.

By the way, I really like your Diva, so we agree on some things

Update on our new J9. We've raced her three times so far in our frostbite series. Still learning the boat and especially the asym. spinnaker. The boat sails beautifully, nice helm and does well in the lighter winds we have here in TN. We have a provisional PHRF of 135 which is going to change soon, probably 126 or so. Love the boat, especially the electric inboard. Makes daysailing really easy. I've posted a video of the boat here on Youtube.

Any comments on the jib sheet winch placement?

thanks, youre right.
that's probably why I'm coming down so hard on interior and ergonomics. I learned the hard way, but I also only payed pennies for that, in comparison :)

Nothing negative. Winches are 2 speed Harken 35's so there is more than enough oomph to trim that 105% in. Have not tried cross sheeting yet, but that should not be an issue. Ive owned a J22 so I know the drill with cabintop only winches. Works for the conditions we sail in and the way we sail.

Can you tell us more about the Torqueedo vs Yanmar saildrive? Do you expect to really go 20 miles on a charge? Any other options you would change? I know you’ve only had a month.
