The asshole is on tape admitting to committing a crime by showing uncleared people classified documents. The indictment is not a Tom Clancy novel, it is based on real information provided largely by people who worked for Trump at one time who personally witnessed many of the crimes.

None of the key players at the centre of the Palm Beach, Florida, case against the former president escaped the vicious rant. The radio personality especially honed in his criticism against US Attorney General Merrick Garland and Special Counsel Jack Smith, who Mr Levin branded a “mob lawyer” and a “Soviet star prosecutor,” respectively.
“This is a disgusting mark in history by these bandits in the White House,” Mr Levin yelled to the camera. “Joe Biden is the crookedest crook that has ever been in the oval office... What’s going on here is a disgusting disgrace and it is a war on Trump, a war on the Republican party, and a war on the Republic”

I've lived here approximately half of my life. The majority of white Southerners don't have any ill will towards Black people, or any white supremacist sympathies.

What they do have is is a strong sense of social cohesion, an emotional need for a secure place in their society. This could be partly due to having the South devastated in a war, and if so then devastating it worse would not help, would it?

When social or political groups are led by racists (and the racists seek out and push for such positions), most Southerners feel it's more important to go along than to push back. Having been programmed to hate Democrats for the past 30+ years, it's not surprising that they are more comfortable with a dog-whistling white supremacist than with a Democrat leader.
