after life, and a desire to not pay the eBoat masters, got in the way of staying with the lead boats I caught a massive flyer and am not nearly as embarrassed…

Thanks, GT! Not too shabby a finish for you either :) I kept looking over my shoulder, thinking that you might do the same thing Mom did to me in that final stretch!

That was a pretty intense finish. Nice job, guys. Several great finishes from the SA squad. I've been off my game a bit lately, and this one brought some of the intensity back for me today.

It was tight for sure! It was a bit frustrating for me to have Mom on my right hip this whole time and knowing I could only delay the inevitable (well played Mom!) But nothing compared to the frustration that Tunnel Rat must have felt shooting up to 2nd place overall in that last run, knowing all along that he would eventually have to gybe and take his loss.

Bye for now, Breitling! I'll probably be away too for the next few legs (traveling and otherwise busy with real life), but hopefully I'll find time to rejoin the fun before this edition of the race concludes.

Good morning,

Firstly - we wish Breitling and his wife as easy time in the future. Our thoughts are with you. Let us know when you want to come out and play.

On to less serious things. The dust has settled and the majority of us have finished.

My excuse for grossly misplaced over-optimism was a heady mix of real life racing, a series prizegiving and just one or two celebratory beers.

I was firmly slapped back into my place by the four front runners. Well done to you all. An extremely close finish between Mom and JeSa - 203 secs after 34 and a half days of racing. That's a 0.007% difference!

I feel that Viper got absolutely brutalised by this leg. He was out in the front by 36hours at one point. It all closed back up, but he held on to his lead until about 400Nm to the finish, when he got hammered again by the weather. Well played for the early gybe which put you so far ahead and for grinding it out to maintain the lead for so long.

Well done to Mom - back to your best.

I'm hoping most people will finish within the next 24hrs, and then I will update the overall placings.

By the way - I slept through my alarm anyway..... not that it would have made any difference.

TR- thanks for the standings and blurbs about our experience, fun stuff. Congratulations to the podium winners, you showed commitment, dedication, and earned your results. I was fortunate to get a large early lead, and unfortunate to sail into a giant parking lot that expanded in my path for an extra couple gribs. Such is ocean racing. I’ll sail the next leg to Newport looking to avoid those slow spots!

Hello,

Most people have finished. The Brazilian beaches north of Itajai seem to have some sort of Siren call for MikeMike, having sailed straight past the finish. Hello Kitty seems to have been sampling the beaches near Cape Horn, which did not appear to be to his liking as he bounced well over 100Nm off to the SW after impact!

A shout out to SailingMyCubicle and Mozzie 2 for some high quality brinksmanship with only 79 secs separating them.

OA to follow.

Hello,

Here are the overalls. I am assuming MikeMike and Hello Kitty will finish.

A DNC will now cost you 25 points.

Mom and Shockwave are tied for the lead with Mom taking it on countback.

A quick reminder that we are using a low points system without drops.

On a personal note, using the Dashboard made quite a big difference for me understanding what is really going on. Also big thanks to Mom explaining the boost given in between changing sails. Being willing to interrupt a night's sleep might make a difference as well, but I'm not, so I deal with it.

Leg 4 starts in 17 days.

See you then.

That will help you for certain, but it won't keep you ahead of me!

FWIW, I usually sleep 6-8 hours, and rarely wake up for the 4:30 AM wind update. Usually just in volatile conditions or tricky coastal stuff. Staying awake all night is like buying expensive sails for your real boat, or buying expensive golf balls... it'll only help if you sail to the right places. Otherwise, you're just driving it further into the trees.
