Hello,

It is a bank holiday today, so I am doing this at home in my phone. The high is shifting off to the east, while the low if starting to bring its influence to bear. This means that there has generally been more pressure behind which has closed things up.

More reaching in the near future.

Mr Turkey seems to have set his heart on visiting the Mediterranean. Why not?

Good morning,

Our weather is currently being dominated by a small low off the west coast of Scotland. The leaders are running in strong westerlies, Zezo is suggesting a gybe in towards the S coast of Iceland to keep in better pressure. The routing is taking us N of the Faroes and Shetland. Once we get close to the Skagerrak the weather will start to get a bit more complicated with passing lanes opening up.

Around three days before that post finish beer in Aarhus.

Good morning,

We have reached our most northerly point and we are sliding ESE just past the northern coast of the Faroe Islands. The main weather system is a high which has stalled off the West coast of Scotland. A series of mini highs and lows are forecast for southern Sweden in about 36 hours. I would hazard a guess that the forecast will not model them correctly, I expect thigs to change rapidly.

Today holds a slide to the SE and then a gybe in towards Southern Norway.

Getting to the crunch time.

Good morning,

Less than 24hrs to the end, so the next update should include some finish times.

The leaders have gybed and are shmoking in towards the southern end of Norway. The complicated weather over southern Norway and Sweden has come to pass, but there are forecast to be quite consistent westerlies, although with significant pressure gradients.

There is a bit of a north-south split, with Me Rongo at the southern end and Mom at the northern end. There is currently more wind in the north, but they will need to run deep and slow, or gybe early. kea is climbing all over the back of me, but I have the elbows out trying to keep him in his rightful place.

I'm mildly concerned that the end of the race will be in the middle of the night for me, when some tricky coastal navigation will be required including a short sharp beat from Stensmark into Aarhus. I've even contemplated setting an alarm, but that sounds way too serious.

Hmmmm, I think most of us have missed the opportunity, but I was just wandering around the map on the Dashboard and noticed that the river/canal system through Aarlborg is open. I wonder if anyone is going to try it. It seems to cut out a lot of distance, but is very windy.

It would be fun to try if you had a second boat playing.

Good morning,

Well played to prettyhatemachine - it was a fun coastal section for the last part of this leg.

The first seven have finished, no real cliffhangers. Mom has extended his overall lead over shockwave. I have got back some places on Driftwood, but only because he was driving across Canada.

The next four are quite closely bunched and all very close in the overall. Should be a good race to the finish.

I think most people should be finished by tomorrow - when I will do a wrap up.

Lastly I take it back about using the canals - there is a bridge at Aggersund that will not allow you through - glad I didn't try that!

Thanks, I think that was my first time inside the top 100. Pretty cool.

When I woke this morning I thought I was toast. Heading up to the top of the peninsula I was running a bit north (with less air) than the eventual lead group to my south. The additional gybe in Jammerbugt region I was able to gain back some lost ground.

I made a big leap at the end. It looked like some boats double sail changed from C0 > Staysail > Light Jib heading to weather. Luckily, I was on manual and went straight from C0 to Light Jib at the turn west.

Thanks as always for the daily standings and commentary, TR. I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say: we really appreciate it.

Good morning,

All except two boats have finished. There was quite a tussle between Siafu, tcross, Mike V and Mr Cubicle. There were numerous lead changes, only one grounding, but all the positions changed from the last ranking report. A bit of a nail biter between SMC and Mike V - only 46 secs!

I am assuming that MikeMike and Mr Turkey will finish in their current positions.

So here are the overall results. Mom has extended his lead by a single point. There is some fairly regular spacing between 3rd and 6th, then a whole mass of boats fighting for 7th to 12th all rammed into a five point spread.

Remember a DNC gets you 25 points and there are no discards. Two more legs to go, the next one looks like quite a complicated coastal leg with seven marks down the Langelandsbaelt and back up. It looks like a tricky start at a silly (for me) hour.

See you there.

I did do legs 1 and 2 but only made comments here after that. If not too difficult to add Leg 2 = 569/49171; leg 2 = 658/48894. Not too serious if it is a mission.
Seeing as you ask so nicely - I have given you the finish position that you would have got, but I haven't adjusted everyone else, as that would be quite a lot of work - even though you have jumped me in the rankings , but you have also jumped Driftwood  so that's OK!

Good morning,

Well that didn't go according to plan. Not one, not two, but three groundings in the first 11 hours.

Light downwind conditions prevail, interesting to see who takes the western buoy at the gate!

The only way is up!

Good afternoon,

Lots of place changes, the leaders are now out into the open sea, no more turning marks, but quite a lot of tricky decisions to be made.

Just over 24hrs to the finish. Difficult with real life getting in the way.

Early on i added a maint item for The Hague ... must refurb keel bulb, after "minor" grounding 2x !!
But then it all when to shite somehow due to "distractions"...
A small sample of my track ...See if u can figure out what happened here.

yep somehow forgot to round the gate & kept going, only for the eventual turn around also going back through gate, instead of around it.. = turn around again!
Oh :poop::poop:
:ROFLMAO::LOL::unsure::poop:
At least i've sorta manged to halve the 4hours lost/wasted to the leaders of our merry band.

Difficult with real life getting in the way.
I know all too well about stuff getting in the way ....

I've been sick as hell the last 3 days... some kind of awful congestion. Couldn't breathe at all. Couldn't sleep. Slept maybe 3-4 hours the night before the race and 3-4 hours the first night of the race. Finally slept well last night. Feeling much more human now. Oh, also my wife was out of town so I was single parenting a toddler... oh, and then there's employment. It's been a rough patch but my wife is home and it's Saturday and I can breathe, so all good now.

About kee.nn's rounding. Pretty good, but better is possible. If you make your sailchange and tack coincide exactly, then both maneuvers start with the same initial stamina, instead of the second one occurring with whatever stamina was left from the first one. Also, it compounds the two penalties instead of applying them sequentially, which is a little less of an impact. But... getting around that buoy in this manner was difficult. You had to come in at TWA 140, and then go all the way around to about TWA 030 on the opposite tack (a turn of 170 degrees, with the buoy inside the 10 degree angle you've formed), and then bear away to TWA 045 after clearing the buoy. Almost impossible to do without using waypoints and the map in the dashboard tool. If anyone wants to get into "next level" stuff like that and doesn't know what the dashboard tool is, I can clarify. It's also essential for close coastal sailing.

Mom said “I've been sick as hell the last 3 days”

Sick kid 12 hr road trip to help, no time and or no service… no chrome…so no zezo…then playing on a phone screen .. Soo it was a easy race just waypoints the whole thing, the rounding, the beats, the parade, every thing. easy race really lots of sleep…

I pulled a rat move missed the start. Worked to the top of the pack then no time.. just straight lining it…
