Do you mean that disgusting Sudacrem affair with Annemieke Bes?
That was a good one, but don't think it was King Neptune who had that rash on his scrotch.
BTW, Annemieke is crewing on Viva Mexico this time, and actually a real fun girl from the northern beaches of Amsterdam...
Yes, it was the Sudacrem fiasco. SA blew up over it. It was primarily Witty and his #1 sidekick, who got the boot shortly thereafter.

They didn't get the boot and they shouldn't have either.

Only the people onboard had the right to be offended by anything that took place.
I was referring to Steve Hayles who was shown the door. And Scally posted the video of the episode, so, anyone who saw it had the right to be offended, and were. Off thread, anyway, sorry, so I'm done.

The German „Yacht“ posted and interview with Stanjek about his learning curve on an Open60 and skippering Guyot for the second leg, with Dutreaux skipping this one. He says how difficult it was for him to adapt to the boat and that he couldn’t imagine sailing it alone. They are mostly sailing the boat by looking at numbers, which is new to him. The most important thing to keep the boat going fast, staying on the foils, is trimming the main actively, which is super hard to do. Looking through the tiny windows you only get a rough view. He’s aware of the speed difference between his and the newer boats and happy about how the doldrums crossing played out.

Holcim-PNB îs sailing at twice the speed as Guyot as they pass Salvador de Bahia (great place to visit) and sail towards Rio (ditto but for other reasons), almost twice VMG, gaining miles every tracker update. It is still very early in the race but a good showing by Holcim for sure.

On board documentary Holcim

Looks like fun. Easy does it.

I have probably watched this video a dozen times in the past couple of days. It always makes me smile. Kevin is a hard working guy esp for a skipper; upbeat, just as he was on DongFeng. I would be inspired to crew for him. His enthusiasm and professionalism is contagious.

Haven't seen this mentioned yet:

In a video yesterday Will Harris said they had damage on their starboard foil

Things keep getting better and better for TM

they said damage but not sailing full throttle yet either. Without scanning it I'm guessing their is a an edge with a little crack or something?
They also said it might not need repair at all, sounds like a chip that might just be in the paint

It will be a problem in any case since they will now be more careful and not go full throttle on that side anymore

Guyot now almost completely stopped despite them having the best wind of all the boats according to the tracker, they lost 30 nm to the field in the last 4 hours, most of them in the last 2h.

That sounds like they have a major problem

Edit: The field is going about twice as fast as the wind according to the tracker tho, so the wind overlay might just be wrong

@Herman, do the polars you use account for differences in sail inventories?
Nope. And as the teams present their sail inventory list for the leg only to the race organization, we don't know which boat has which sails to use onboard anyway. Except by watching pics and vids.

Also, wave conditions are not taken into account either. I check that myself what sea state is applicable.

If I had twice the time I put in weather routing now available I could take a swing. But not so.

Yacht.de asked Boris Hermann about the foil problem this morning and he said that it is not serious.
They bloody love him. He is Christ reborn to resurrect German offshore sailing. Good for us, we get more (biased) coverage.
