The Ocean Race 2023 leg 3: Capetown to Itajaí, Brazil

@Fiji Bitter you said something dumb and offensive. Acknowledge it (apologize if you're feeling extra generous) and move on with your life.
We don't wanna know if you think Rosie would be offended or not. It's in your best interest to just say "ok" and go on talking about the racing.
Just please for the love of god stop doubling down on your mistake!
I think this pretty much sums up the global sentiment.

Holcim-PRB "gybe" was 100% accidental in my opinion. They came back and repositioned precisely in Malizia's lane, so I think they wanted to hold it the entire time.
Leading theory obviously is that something broke or gave signs of fatigue that they had to fix. Unfortunately we probably won't hear about this until Itajai because Malizia would be all too happy to learn that Holcim can't do this or that because they broke such and such.

Yeah, HOLCIM-PRB will take 2nd!
They are not under serious threat from 11th Hour Racing Team.
Still would like to know what happened after that unintentional gybe from from them. After that everything fell apart. It went from 0.8 nm behind before that to now 36 Miles behind.

I am also questioning Malizia going full throttle down in these conditions with a repaired Mast. They should take it easy too IMO particularly when they know they have the faster boat in big wind + sea state.

Damage is at masthead. Boris has said earlier that he is happier when the wind is strong because it means the repair is above the fractionals and thus doesn't get stressed.

20kn BSP is probably not full throttle, but it is a reasonable speed. Downwind speed can be your friend, reducing 50kn TWS to 30kn AWS. So long as you you don't nose dive and stress everything, but TM's hull has proved to be very good at avoiding hard stops, so they are I think they are right to use the conditions to open a buffer on PRB... who I would not rule out until the finish.

I am not sophisticated enough to need an algebra system (just a structural engineer!) but I like so much the reverse polish notation and the clicky keys... so until it dies, anybody who wants it will have to pry it out of my cold dead hands. I bought it in 1994, I am amazed that it is still going.

I loved those machines, wish I still had one of mine.

No, that comment was disgusting and highly disrespectful regardless of Rosalin's personality. Although she has shown herself to be tough as nails and able to keep high spirits through just about anything in this leg, I trust that she would be able to roll her eyes and ignore this shit being thrown from the gutter if she ever became aware of it.

Unfortunately there is a real risk that she might not continue on the next leg, depending on a scan and examination. That boat is the very worst thing for someone with concussion.

I think HOLCIM-PRB has some minor damage. I get that the current conditions suit Malizia. Still they went from 0.8 nm behind to 24-25 nm in a span of 3 Hours. Now they are almost 40 Miles behind. Something is just not right.
They also could have deliberately slowed the boat down. I would not rule that out.
There isn't any light wind patch coming up so barring a breakage Malizia wins.

FFS! I've stayed away from SA forums for a while, but as this leg was coming to an exciting finish, I thought I'd tune in to see if there are any insights here..... But no, same old misoginist shit.

Good on those that stay around and fight the dickheads, but geeeze it is hard to stick around here.
It's been generally very pleasant and very informative (thanks to some great posters such as herman) in this thread until the last 24 hours... just ignore the stupid and misogynist ones.

Same speed now so can't be too much damage, if any.

Comparing the 4h distance sailed, Holcim has sailed around 6nm less than TM. I guess they are back in their competitive mode but faced with harsh conditions.
TM has a great position right now but dare you Boris, don‘t break anything on the last miles!!!

Woke up 2AM and happy to see TM still stretching away. Pity about the likely nighttime finish. I think this monster leg should have had the midway points, and then double points at the finish (but probably would not feel that way if TM were in last place).
