If there is unknown current (speed and direction) and leeway angle is unknown too, then the answer is no. But TWA, TWS and AWA already give you AWS if there is no leeway and no current.

Are you 100% sure?

I stated there is enough information there, not that all is needed for solution.

TWA and AWA relative to boat HDG are two angles of the wind triangle, so third is (trivially) known, yes?

BTW what is that third angle called, I don't know the word in English?

We have one length/side (TWS) of the triangle, so the two others are (trivially) known, yes?

Other sides being the AWS and SPD, yes?

Did I miss something? How can current and leeway skew a rigid triangle?

TWD is not useful at all, and SOG is only relevant for the case current and leeway are to be accounted for, and is not enough if both factors are fully unknown.

TWD and SOG can then be used to solve the remaining unknown vectors, yes, like HDG etc?

Maybe I need to draw this on a sketchpad, I did not think it through so thoroughly...

Back to 60 min vectors.

Wind angle is now better in my eye than what it was a while ago.

Some glitch in MT, wind barbs changed all around, weird. And TM also turned:

I'm just listening to the latest episode of the "End of the watch with Team Malizia" podcast.

Not sure anyone noted it here but Rosie apparently had a concussion. When the crew treated her she passed out several times.

This was new to me, from the videos I got the impression she banged her head but it wasn't a concussion.
Post concussion syndrome can last for months. Many months. I’m hoping her symptoms have settled so she can continue -both for her benefit racing as much as our benefit for their entertaining team dynamics) but she needs to be careful about further head knocks

Some kind of land effect here as TM can soak down along the shore instead of gybing away. Can Holcim do the same?

Excellent thinking! So I checked this location using ASCAT 0339z extreme zoom for that.

And there seems to be a land effect, but you would have to really go inshore. Say 8 nm from the coast. Actually TM is now 5 nm away from the coast. And HPRB is closing inshore too. Note too that this is effect is not in the wind models for this location. So kudos for the Dragon for noting this.

Boris hiding the AP controls pretty deliberately, I think. Quietly, but he's fully switched on. The video has a 230331 filename, so I guess she made it through last night safely at good pace with the wrong headsail.

TM should edit out the "solo sailor" from their AIS name. It's a good idea to give that notice when sailing solo, but dilutes the effect if it is used when fully crewed.

The problem is, these being official AIS units they are supposed to not be field reprogrammable. Of course they could bring a tech to do it, or ask for the codes...

BTW just saw Idec Solosailor sail past me (crewed) at leisure pace of 35 kts. Damn those are fast and big - and big and fast.

Pics or it didn't happen ;)

Tried to take a pic, honest, but it was already rather dark (yesterday) :)

They left from the next harbor where're I am staying currently just before sunset last night - must be under time schedule of some sort as the weather was rather awful. Were sailing with quite small sails, but still going like a bullet.

Now they're already a a multi-day trip away for me. Damn they're fast.

Here is a video of Banque Pop V passing a Catamaran.... Holy Shit...

IIRC there is a video from the other boat, too.

I try to get the connection to this thread. Kevin Escoffier was also on board.
