You can put money on it that a replacement has been organised, just in case.

My bet is that she will be rested till Newport. That will give them time to assess her condition. Problem is that Boris is being swapped out for that leg too.
Axelle Pillain from France is the reserve female sailor for team Malizia - I think I saw her on the Eurosport-Live this morning.
Still not sure if she will replace Rosalin the next leg.

Here is my take at Team Malizia's Sailing Crew for the next leg.

1. Will Harris - Skipper / person in charge
2. Nicolas Lungen - Co Skipper / Navigator
3. Yann Eliès - Co Skiper
4. Axelle Pillain - Co Skipper
5. Antoine Auriol - On Board Reporter

Boris skipping the Italia - Newport leg has been planned way upfront. As a side note, he will not have crossed the equator then during the race. Rosie should take the time to recover, IMO.

Zoom?

There are real qualified experienced actual doctors in Brazil, yes? Multiple clinics with MRI in Itajai. Its not some backwater country, really... I am sure they have already booked one ahead of time.

But still the proper thing to do would be to sideline her for one leg, just in case.
Yes, I know there are qualified doctors in Brazil, but, the team, and maybe even Rosie herself, may have a neurologist that they prefer to use. I do (concussive history from bicycling, skiing accidents).

Good to see Malizia cross the line first. They earned that win and it helps to keep the scoreboard at least a bit more interesting for the rest of the race.
Still a lot of following to do on this leg though. I'll be interested to see if there is anything up with Holcim-PRB - were those last angles we've seen down to them just not pushing, or something else?
And 11th Hour and Biotherm look like they have a frustrating time ahead of them before they see the line.
Obviously the difficulty for 11th Hour and Biotherm being so far behind is this will shorten the amount of time the shore crews have to work on their considerable boat issues.

Well after 15,000 miles it's fair to say the Malizia design is the king of the big wave conditions. I hope Rosie get's some well deserved rest. Will this win give them more confidence for the remaining legs? Also congrats to Malizia for their video entertainment, they have rejuvenated The Ocean Race with their on board reporting and energy. Lot's to be happy about for Team Malizia. Rosie will be missed next leg.!

Ironic ...
"Axelle Pillain, 32, traded medical school for offshore sailing in 2019. By then she had already completed a PhD in applied mathematics for brain imaging."

Looking at that, I would be surprised if that had not been the team even if Rosie had not been injured.

A canadian friend used to be in the Navy. He said that it was customary for sailors taking shore leave who had families, to sometimes be given a small bag of green jelly beans.

Of course I asked why and he said "Well, when he gets to the front door he scatters the green jelly beans onto the front lawn, then the second bang is the door closing! Takes the kids hours to find them"

Great stuff Malizia! So happy for them. I’ve been watching the team updates every morning with my 4 year old daughter. She’s always excited to see what Rosie is up to. I love their boat. Boris’ conservative approach, trading weight for increased reliability and crew comfort, combined with their hull shape that is clearly slower in the light stuff, while being exceptional in the heavy from both a speed and comfort standpoint is great to see paying off.

So now that the biggest stress is over I went back to the beginning of the "What-about-a- the-Ocean Race" thread and had a look around what all the experts then were telling.
It went like "not enough boats, it´gonna be dead boring, noboby will pay any attention, all in all it´s gonna be a big clusterfuck".
And now we have 2311 posts only about leg three.
I Would like to thank everybody to make this thread a great pleasure - well mostly - let´s keep going this way.
And hopefully all the newbies will finally start to show us the tits of their sisters

I will shorten my daily wx analysis to the absolute minimum in order to free up time for a new work project, and to have a first look at fund-raising sail race event around Ireland.
Well deserved. But I hope you return in full for leg 4?! What's up with @damien btw?

Didn't express them here but I had my doubts at the beginning.

I can think of 3 things that made this a great race so far:
* very tight racing
* rather authentic videos from the boats compared to heavily edited footage from an organizer trying to pump up the hype
* authentic stories of crews facing obstacles and overcoming them making everyone a "winner"

Back to the race-course: what's wrong with 11th hour? Last 4 hours only 5.7knots, current speed 8 knots?
Are they in that wind hole already? Bad seas, damage?
If it continues like this it might get close between 11th and Biotherm...although the gap is still quite large.

But Boris was on Twitter!

Maybe I just an old prick but ... that's pretty fucked up. Sail the fucking boat and leave the media to the OBR.
Without the media this event would die - Will, Boris and Rose are doing the job that must be done if they want to keep sailing. The French don't face that economic issue as they have very strong financial support for their events - perhaps this is why their Navigator skips out on the media work.

And speaking of media - anyone who doubts the work required to put out content like what we saw from TM - haver a look at the latest from 11th Hour - pretty shocking - must be having a tough time, hope they rally before the finish.
