In the wild.
I won't not give more attention to the doubling down of the unsavory comments or the attempt to pass it off as if you meant something else.

Any offshore contact lense wielders in here?

I've edited my post, and given it some colour, just to avoid any confusion.

And for contacts, they can indeed be a pain, even on land. Try the day and night ones, they are for 6 to 30 days, depending on type and wheyther your eyes can stand them or not.

Here are some drawings that will illustrate what they've got. Would be REALLY nice if someone could overlay the 2 boats over each other:

7-Malizia%20III%20TOR22*.png

And Holcim-PRB lines:

Could not find lines for Malizia at the moment.

Not just the shape, the hull volume of PRB is much lower, from the bow the the crew station. Big factor.

Still think a thin keel extended forward would give waterline length to a banana boat in the light stuff, while adding strength to the hull for rigging.

I just did day ones but it got annoying so I gave up (for now).

There's also this goofy other type that you put on at night and they reshape your cornea so you see good during the day but you have to wear them again at night. Not practical for a boat because you can't see too well with them on and there's no such thing as "a night" also they're dummy expensive

Interesting to me, if accurate, that Holcim's foils would seem to be in the water a lot more often than Malizia's. OTOH, Malizia foils with her bow SO high that I'm curious about the angle of attack for her foils. Seems like if they're good for bow-high and high speed then they'd be less good and draggy for bow low. Interesting twist on them, I guess.

I unreservedly apologize to the hundreds of easily offended snowflakes on this thread for thinking that Malizia had slowed down because the much loved Rosalin was changing the tampon on her head wound.
I must be blind because she was in fact putting in her contact lenses.

I'm also happy to report that she is looking forward to the next leg, and that she will make sure to be ready for it.

They use the aft water ballast tanks to trim the angle, so Will said on the boat walkthough before the start.

Interesting she chose to still wear contacts on an ocean race. I have been on a few boats where the contact lenses person had issues with their contacts and ended up virtually blind for the rest of the race because you can't really flush things out with water and so on. I've personally written off using contacts offshore because of the problem potential.

I used to wear them all the time. The one month ones that just stay in. A good face full of ocean every now and again keeps them hydrated. In the end I got lasered and solved those issues.

Oh, you're right, good point. Same issue though, I'd think, because they can't change angle of attack on the foils like on an AC boat. Once the AOA is set, it's set. I'm thinking it's different twist and camber along the span of the foil that make the difference at different altitudes.

If I am 11th Hour Racing I am starting to get a little nervous. If the wind fills in from the east they should be fine. If the HP cuts them off then we have a whole new ball game.
Lead down to 55 Miles and there is more wind along the shore or closer to shore tomorrow predicted.

Yup, and the roof on Malizia has lots more volume, which they had to do so they boat would flip itself back if it turtles.
Not exactly. They chose a higher roof intentionally, which means more weight… but because of the added buoyancy up high they could remove weight from their keel bulb which they would normally need to meet capsize recovery requirements.

Don't forget, HolcimPRB was only 2nm behind Malizia when she went into one of two unintentional breaches.
