Thats not no, as it wasn't monolithic everywhere... only the bow, and thats the stern judging by the prop shaft?

Seems so.

I somehow misjudged the damage to be in bow, but that sure is a prop shaft.

And here is the damaged section inside, confirms the location:

I don't get it. Originally I thought Herrmann mentioned in an interview, they wouldn't use a "foam" core, but I wasn't so sure. Eliboat then stated a hull without a core was virtually impossible. The article I linked mentions foam twice, although explicitly only for strings and deck. Since Schütz produces honeycomp core, I assumed "foam" is precisely that and most probably it would also be used for the hull. So where does it say, there is no core??

Quote from Meomhy and this is what you replied to saying yes there was a core.

Malizia has a single-skin hull bottom full length. For reference, this is a thin single-skin carbon shell supported by many stringers, like an aluminium/steel boat. Many other boats have single-skin from stem to midships, or just aft of this. Topsides, deck, bulkheads etc will be a honeycomb sandwich panel. Also, the latest imoca rule does not allow honeycomb in the hull bottom.

The whole single-skin bottom concept has been around for a wee while now, with heaps of images and videos that show it. You can not have hull shell core failure if there is no core..

The stringers that then support the single skin however become critical..

I was mistaken. I didn’t see the article when I had commented on core vs no core. The method makes sense, but is vey unorthodox and prone to other issues I think. Time will tell! It would be interesting to know about the build process. My hunch is that it added a fair bit of time to the build.

Looks like 11th Hour blinked first.

Videos from the boats still reasonably "silent" in terms of how they are anticipating the heavy weather and esp. the waves / sea state.

Most fascinating thing for me: How HOLCIM-PRB continues to gain VMG dead downwind, not just this Leg but we saw this in Leg 1 too.
They do seem to have a mode that is very difficult for the others to match.

I would not be surprised if HOLCIM will sail almost completely parallel to the ICE GATE without having only to a limited amount of jibes.

It's quite even on port pole before and after the gybe. Maybe Holcim is just able to find their low-mode much faster or the boat was better suited for the sea-state.

I sure wish the TOR would post a little more data on their tracker, though it would have to come from the boats and they probably don't want to give it up. I'm always wondering about apparent wind to compare against boat speed and VMG. Malizia posts quite a bit more of it.

a reasonable treckingbike that is going forward once you start pedaling! lights got stolen again, though.
Do you see how Malizia is already plowing through the field like a downhillbike through rough terrain?
Manoman, before we come to all of that, show us the tits of your sister newbie!

It won't take long before Malizia overtakes Holcim and the others.
In 24h at the latest they will be leading the pack. I'd wager my bicycle, my house and my wife on that.
You are a brave man..! LOL. Malizia indeed the fastest boat in the fleet ATM but Holcim will most likely win this race and the series. I would love to see Malizia win but when the conditions lighten they are not as fast as Holcim.

They are like a 180mm travel EMTB powering downhill..! LOL Unfortunately the whole race is not in these conditions and they are not fast enough in the lighter conditions. Holcim is the boat to beat.!
