Not much info yet on how each crew plan to tackle the challenging conditions expected in the next few days. I suspect it's unlikely they will all escape unscathed. Fingers crossed that any issues are minor and they all stay safe.

Malizia have said the following....
"With Friday evening approaching and through the long dark Saturday night, we expect the boats to see sustained winds of 40kts and violent gusts well above that, this combined with a wave height in the range of 5-6m."

"At the height of the storm it seems to be the exact time the boats should be quickly diving SE towards Cape Horn so it will be a tricky balance of staying north out of the strongest wind and still making good progress towards the horn."

Looking forward to following progress with a sense of apprehension and interest. (Also looking forward to Herman's routing thoughts!)

Malizia averaged 24 knots the last 4 hours, others 21 or less, so they should indeed roll Holcim soon. Next big decision will be when to gybe south as the front hits. I wonder how confident 11th hour feel about that port rudder for the next few days of rough sailing. The trailing boat in the GGR has struggled at the horn, now trying to get out of the way of the coming conditions.

If that’s true why isn’t Holcomb miles ahead right now?

Who is Holcomb....?

Yes these are TM's conditions. She really needs to get in front and build a lead. It seems every time she does it's only for a while and Holcim rolls them again. TM doing 10 miles per 4 hours more than the fleet ATM..!

ETA at Cape Horn Sunday Evening
ETA at Itajai April 1st

So there is still one week left after the Horn and if Malizia doesn't have a big enough of a lead rounding the Horn Kevin & Holcim are going to reel them back in I think. Kevin will play it safe knowing there is still a full week left of racing after Cape Horn.

Yes we know after the Horn as they head up the coast it can get lighter and have seen the leaders surrender big leads. TM will know this and may push hard while they can because it would appear the other boats in the lighter weather will also be a threat. For me anything other than a 1st or a 2nd and they will be disappointed.

Riseup's wife may well be happy to know that TM has found its legs and has gained nearly 10 miles in the last 12 hours
He is all over it..! He is rising to the occasion..! I think we would all love to see them win this leg long way to go and no doubt slower once you round the Horn and head up the coast..!

Had anybody else got an issue with the tracker? I'm using chrome on an android phone, and I used to be able to press on a boat and see the data ( speed, heading, 4hrs etc) this has gone and I can't find it elsewhere on the site.

Wx follows this afternoon. Forecast improved. Rounding CH according to GFS and WW3 on March 28th in the morning. More details later.

Instant update.
ETA Itajai April 1st in the afternoon. ETAs for the fleet within 2 minutes, 9 days sailing to the finish. Remember the long term GFS forecast does have a lower probability as you folks know.

I have an iPhone with TOR app and I can get the info by hovering my cursor over each boat on the tracker. Sometimes esp with Biotherm a couple of the categories are missing horizontally.

Malizia has gotten out the freight train again

I think the storm around the cape plays directly into TMs hand. Boris has already hinted that he will just go straight through and believe in the robust hull and the crew has the morale to fight through these conditions

I can't see 11th hour willing to do the same with damaged rudders, especially considering waiting will cost at most 3 points and a failure in the storm might cost this  and the next leg or even the boat

Similar for Holcim: why risk the boat if you are that far ahead? Biotherm might risk it though
