the lastest TM poddy tells an interesting story - 11th hour visually struggling to handle the boat with a few tucks and a small headsail whereas TM have a full main and fractional headsail.
He said HPRB have a similar setup but with one tuck.

11th Hour doesn’t have the ‘one tuck’ option due to the damage, unfortunately

In my opinion from the comfortable of our front room in Thornlie in Western Australia, TM and HPRB are too far north.

in saying that though, i do wonder if there is something not quite on Malizia. They are sailing lower and a fair bit slower than HPRB. the tracker shows they have had a few prolonged bear away's assuming to depower the boat.

They may have had a small issue they are only in around 17 Knots but it won't be long until they are in 25-28 Knots. Sailing in 17 Knots they are no faster if not slower the Holcim. I can't see them shaking Holcim though.

Would you mind sharing your link as it stopped working for me also yesterday.
Grafana opens but there is no data at all.
The 24h speed and VMC sounds like data from the offical tracker...my TM grafana dashboard has also stopped working.

I would not be surprised if this was tactics-related. I cannot remember Boris / TM doing so in the last races. But as this race will be about every mile of lead, the Grafana might be advantageous for the other teams (eg whether Malizia reach their target performance at their location). Although I cannot estimate the impact of that information. Enough conspiracy; maybe the board is just down for maintenance.

Weather routing March 24th
ASCAT got lucky @ 0303Z this morning, see pic 1. A HP zone to the north of the fleet, and a LP close to Antarctica.

It seems that both wind models overstate the winds below the fleet. See pics 2 and 3. Highest winds as per ASCAT near the Chilean coast @ 40 kts, but that is only 1 wind barb.

The sea state is already worsening due the wind below the fleet. The 2 wave models do not much agree though, ass the related wind models don't agree. Hard to tell which one to believe or not. As Biotherm is still doing 18 kts boat speed I guess that WW3 with less significant wave height than WAM for this location could be more reliable than WAM this time.

Both wind and both wave models state go SE towards CH for today.

But looking a bit further @ March 25 12Z a new strong wind field is expected. GFS routes through this for 11th Hr and Biotherm. 6 m sig waves according to WW3. TM and Holcim projected to go straight east and then south along the Chilean coast. I don’t buy the latter, as you do want to keep a healthy amount of sea room to that coast and lee shore, say 50 nm or more.

For ECMWF and WAM the wx also drive the fleet towards the Chilean coast, I don’t buy that either.

As the 2 wind and 2 wave models do rather not agree on tomorrow, we have the wait for new ASCAT or more shorter term weather forecasts which will become available in the coming day or tomorrow morning to see what the fleet could be doing.

So I decided to not post the Wx table this time as I am not confident enough in the validity of the wx routings. My gut feeling is to trust the ECMWF a bit more as GFS tends to overstate winds in these parts, as noted and shown earlier up thread.

it makes sense to turn it off. Why help the competition?

30+kn boatspeed drone footage. just wow

Great footage! This is what Malizia has been build for. And the concept seems to work really well. There are several times where it looks like the bow will be buried in the next wave but it is not. Must be a lot less stress for the boat.

And still splendid team spirit on board. Kevin is holding on though. Good for us.

Holy moly, have we ever seen footage like that? I was shaking just watching it. And indeed Malizia does not bury the bow. But how then are Holcim keeping up? and are the occasional bear-aways to recover the drone?
