Did 11th hour damage their main repair? I thought they were able to use full main or reef 2 and more.
I really doubt that they were not reefed in the conditions that broke battens. OTOH chances are that something more than battens got damaged.

I think it's Holcim to cover. As long as they are in the same weather system with TM when they turn north they think they're good.
Yep. Kevin also said he wasn't pushing the boat much right now because he knows he can't really keep up, so if I was Malizia I think i would try to lengthen the gap while I can before Holcim starts putting the foot down again.

I think might've happened when they gybed earlier or they went mining and burried themselves into a wave really bad.
Probably not a crash gybe because they probably would've broken a ton of stuff then.

11th hour back up to 19.2. Holcim-PRB sending it at 22kts, fastest in the fleet at the time of the last position report.

As Kevin commented in that same interview, he has the more versatile boat and while he won't (to save the boat and the crew) try to cover Malizia in these conditions, he believes he can once conditions change after going around Cape Horn.

It sure if anyone listened to the Bar Karate podcast about Comanche, they trim the keel angle too because it can provide too much lift when they are trying to sail deep.

I recall Brunel sailing past a few boats on one of the later legs of the previous VOR due to them finding a sweet spot with less keel cant.

gotta feel for 11th hour, they have had a shitter but have done well to be within 150 miles after a month at sea.

11th hour has to keep the eyes on the goal, arriving in Itajaí - with an intact boat.
I get that they really want more than 2 points for the last part of the leg but 0 points is a real possibility.

Both, Malizia & 11th Hour have to put some pressure on Holcim. If the Swiss Team somehow manages to steal this Leg then winning Overall for the two other Boats becomes a very big challenge. 11th Hour would be 8 Points behind, Malizia 7 Points.

Watching the video footage of Holcim surfing down waves compared to Malizia is chalk and cheese.! Holcim buries the bow somewhat whilst Malizia doesn't. You can literally see the boat slow down with the buried bow. Kevin must have nightmares surfing down waves in these conditions after he folded his bow like a tin can last time around.! He was also lucky to be rescued by the remarkable Jean Le Cam..! I can remember watching my PC screen like glue when they were having trouble locating Kevin in his raft and then the amazing work by Le Cam to get him on board eventually. There is no way Kevin wouldn't have this in the back of his mind. They can afford to let Malizia go and try and catch them later as there could be a restart when they get closer to the finish.

Malizia are but it seems 11th hour unable to achieve this ATM due to issues with their boat. Hard to do with one good rudder.!

sure, wonder if the designers of these boats read this forum?
most of all, I personally wouldn't miss these funky foils if they went back to daggerboards.

The current design is already obsolete. The AC foil system if is the future.

Imagine, just imagine how hard a steering system has to work when the foil is metres out to one side? Surface piercing?

Imagine how much better it would be if the lifting surface was always submerged and closer to the centreline? I guess that's why the AC boats went that way.

like I said, it's my opinion this shit here is funky and not worth the extremely complex design hassles needed to make it work as intended. I personally like 'simple' things that are 101% optimized.

In the wild.
Wow,... NO Forum for a few crucial hours tomorrow...how are we going to cope..?

Does Scuttlebutt have a forum?
Otherwise we all have to get facefucked...
Who dares?

P.S.
And I fear that until 12pm they mean midnight, and then there will still be some gremlins.
@admin1 , please enlighten us.

PPS.
And maybe they will finally do away with that ridiculous 2-way ignore.
They tried to do so earlier, but ran into other ignore problems.

This is starting to look even more challenging that the originally forecast gales!
