If you would have told Kevin Escoffier & Holcim-PRB that they would round Cape Horn only 25-35 Nautical Miles behind Team Malizia he would have taken that.

I think there will basically be two Match Races:
Malizia & Holcim will race for the Leg Win
Biotherm & 11th Hour will race for 3rd

Having a look at satellite AIS position for Team Malizia. They are atm 13 nm laterally ahead of the GFS projections. But still +/- 50 nm to go before they start "rounding" aka leaving CH to port. Extrapolating average current boat speed for the last hour of 12 kts as per Malizia Grafana dashboard, that would be another 50 / 12 = +/- 4 hrs sailing. And ETA 18Z when photo opportunities start arising. Projections were this morning around 19Z. It should be 100% clouded, cold (3 degrees Celsius) but dry south of Kaap Hoorn. Wind +/- 14 kts as per GFS.

I don't think they'll allow T rudders until all daggerboard boats are phased out of generation. If they allowed it soon, there would simply be no more competition between T-rudder IMOCAs and all the other ones. Class becomes divided, less investors due to no chance of a good result, we know what happens next...

I'm almost sure they will, the current Verdier hulls were thought with T rudders, and having "different classes within the same class" isn't such a big issue, it is already the case anyway (and different budgets for different sponsors/skippers is the way it works), and a lot of foilers will have the possibility to retrofit with T rudders, like a lot of "daggerboats" retrofitted with foils.

It occurs to me that 3rd in a 5 boat fleet is mid-fleet. With only 4 boats still racing, 3rd is in the bottom half of the fleet. In either case, a trophy for that position is kind of like a kids' participation trophy.

Probably no choppa and live this year at the Horn...

Will have to rely on Antoine's drone skills. (At least the winds are playing game being in the 10-16 knot range)
They probably won't see anything of Cape Horn! It's grey, overcast and they will pass the iconic landmark probably 20 Nautical Miles south of it.

Wind is already filling in for TM, boat speed is going towards 18-20 kts. That is quicker than projected. TM is doing a close fly-by it seems of Cape Horn.

And Rosalin became national news in NL (in Dutch);

The biggest Question I have: For how long can Boris & Team Malizia hold Kevin & the HOLCIM-PRB Team off? It is very obvious that in these moderate conditions the Swiss-based Team has the faster boat.

This is remisent of what happened in 2015 when Alvimedica rounded the Horn 1st only to be ground down by Abu Dhabi within 6-8 Hours after rounding.

HOLCIM-PRB now within 20 Nautical Miles of Team Malizia.
Reason for it: They have shifted back to their notorious low mode and by doing that gaining on the German Team.
They have some kind of low mode they can go to which the other Teams simply struggle to match.
Some say TMs zickzack course is to have a better course for Rosie to recover. Not sure though.

And go Kevin GO !!
Why so many TM fans here ? Pissed off of the frogs taking the whole thing ? :)
(ok I know HPRB is branded as a Swiss team or something)
Kevin and Holcims media work is simply too boring or at times not even existing...
