It is THAT CLOSE folksReally wishing these updates came in more frequently. Looks like Holcim and Malizia will be neck and neck for a bit.

The ultrasonic sensors are not as accurate typically around 1 degree and a bit slower to react due to sampling period and such. They often have built in IMU and heading sensor so can provide a direct output in true wind (good on rotating masts). Yes they have heaters for cold weather but they don't seem to be very effective, a good hail shower can clog them up they they take time to defrost.I don't see this as a problem.
These boats have 10-100Hz IMUs already.
I have these in my carI don't understand the flat uncushioned seats. I would think they'd be pretty uncomfortable for long periods and could do a better job of holding the helmsman in place in seas. That's a lot of energy just to stay in position.
once again fantastic drone footage;
3 raised headsails tell the story of changeable conditions.

That's about what I was thinking, though 4 different sized crew members. Even just closed cell pieces like backpacking pads would be something. Belts are a good idea, a concussion alone on VG would be a real problem, eg. Idk, maybe the flat seats are to keep you from falling asleep. 😊I have these in my car
Amazingly comfy. I've done cross Europe runs in it, spending 12 hours in them and they are soo comfy. Great thing is, you drill a hole in the bottom of them, the water goes straight out and they stay dry ( my car doesn't have roof / windscreen). A foam / cushioned one will fill with water and be a nightmare. I'd put them in a race boat! I would also fit harnesses, so would limit the crashes, take some of tension out of the muscles
They're not going to do much upwind sailing. Only the next few hours in light winds. That should favor Holcim, but then there's a lot of downwind in heavy conditions. TM have been excellent in those, but they'll have to keep the boats in one piece.@TheDragon
Boris Hermann said expects some upwind conditions Fri & Sat, then downwind on Sunday.
Do we know the performance of the two Boats upwind?
I remember Holcim & 11th Hour in their Tacking Duel down the Spanish Coast towards Gibraltar in Leg 1 when Holcim came out on top.
If that is any anything I expect a ferocious tacking duel between Malizia & Holcim tomorrow and Saturday.
Or they're sailing upwind nowAs TM speed decreases their heel increases, presumably because the foil stops helping with righting?

Kevin Escoffier is not going to take a risk. Malizia for now ain't a serious threat for the Overall win. Kevin will just be content beating 11th Hour Racing Team.They're not going to do much upwind sailing. Only the next few hours in light winds. They're down 25% of their crew for days, they've got to be REALLY tired.Looking at the next few days of wind, the down wind conditions the remainder of the race are starting down where 11th hour are and will roll up the coast all the way to the finish, overtaking the fleet sailing through this light windward stuff.
TM are doing everything in the playbook to get between Biotherm and the finish though the last 24/36 hours of the race looks to be in a building southery.
This is going to be a thrilling finish of a a 12000 leg!
Go TM!
Must admit I am concerned about the condition of Rosie - it seems that the joviality on the boat had substantially lowered, though i guess they are having to match race for 1000 miles.
