I have a gut feeling the top 3 will finish in the order they are now.

1. 11th
2. Holcim
3. Malizia

Anyone think different.?
This is probably what's going to happen which would mean 11th Hour Racing Team takes over as the Overall Leader. This Leg is worth Double Points so if they stay as they are now it would look like this:
11th Hour 28 P / Holcim 27 Points / Malizia 24 Points

But was Holcim's speed run ratified? Or is Comanche the last ratified record, with three IMOCAs in queue?

(Sorry about the deletion. Never edit after an evening out with plenty of refreshments)

What he said:

I don't believe that Kevin's record has been ratified by the WSSRC yet, therefore I think the "1 mile over the existing ratified record" rule would apply to Comanche's 618 mile record.

But you're absolutely right, I had overlooked that. However, there is also a rule somewhere that a new record cannot be considered while a previous one is pending, but I don't think that applies in this case.

So this can probably be considered the most exciting event in this RTW race, until the finish maybe.

Somehow I feel like Holcim got fucked over this, but then, they were relatively low key about the record(s) (all 3) they broke (and apparently, no longer hold), because their goal is to win the leg and the race, unlike the Party Boat. Jeez, it was like they had invented a new beer that is better than Fiji Bitter or something.

😆 A better beer than Fiji Better is not very difficult, even though Fiji Bitter is quite famous, actually, and "I love Fiji Bitter"...

Though:

By any other name would smell as sweet.”

Huh. I don't drink any more but when I did, and was in Fiji, I thought it was okay.
Anyway, do you or anyone know if Holcim PRB is still having issues with its wind instruments? I just looked at the photos they posted on TOR site (Content from the Boats) and one of them mentioned "lack of wind information." Perhaps that would explain why they are losing miles to 11th hour, and now to Malizia?

I know this was discussed to death in the lead up to TOR and I glossed over it, so at risk of being one of those forum people, can someone briefly summarize how different these boats ended up being from the solo IMOCAs?

A few more bunks, that is it. 11th hour was designed only for this race, and is not different from the other as far as I can see.

Isn't there one of the boats having two Grinders instead of just one, which means they can use two winches in parallel?

@despacio, ref Holcim wind information:

I thought that the stern mounted wand was performing well downwind. But it may not be quite as good because it's not fully calibrated?
Wind gradiënt and acceleration for instance.

They were able to move the wand they mounted on the stern (temporarily) once the wind and sea state were calmer, back to the top of the mast.

Despite the complications aboard the #IMOCA, #Biotherm is moving full speed ahead in a northeasterly direction ⏱

We've got to keep up 👊

Nope. Dalin has been trimming perfectly again in these excellent reaching conditions for 11th Hr. They just sailed away this morning from HPRB and Team Malizia.

Winds are projected to increase in Skagerrak to 25-30 kts TWS, which is in favour of Malizia, according to most weather models available (a handful here). Most models disagree on details though, and don't match local observations very well.

TM catching HPRB with the current 20 nm delta is also a lot to cover.

I de-powered HPRB from 105% to 104% and run twice projections for GFS and Copernicus. No WW3 wave data, but that is less relevant in these sheltered waters.

Pic 1 backtesting for yesterdays' projections. Not bad.

Pic 2 backtesting earlier projections this morning with HPRB @104%. Seems to fit better.

Pic 3 wx routing and table to the finish. ETA still in the early hours of Monday.

Holcim-PRB crossed in front of Malizia. I now have all 3 Boats on AIS. Holcim seems to be content to cover Team Malizia.

True what @Herman says that conditions in the Skagerrak are favoring Malizia. That being said all 3 Boats sailing/racing almost parallel to the coast of Norway so the sea state might not be as bad.

Malizia may have a shot at passing into 2nd, as they seem to be sailing better angles than Holcim, and are now just 10nm back.
Malizia a bit off the pace of the leaders, now up to 24.1kn / 158°

Holcim and crew have the pedal to the metal trying catch a OTT hauling ass 11hr, with both driving hard and fast.

Holcim is presently making 28.5 kn / 59 °
11th hr is presently making 28.9 kn / 123 °

11th Hr AIS

Holcim - PRB AIS

Maliza AIS
