The throne of England

No, not the illegitimate, self-appointed so-called royals —who gives a flying poop about them, really. The real English throne. Lavac (which, frankly, sounds very français). Elegant simplicity.

Anyway, finally launching into this head first, having replaced all through hull valves very recently. Naturally, the new valve set up means I can’t simply replace the shelf that the old awful Jabsco toilet was on - will require some custom carpentry/mounting mods. But that was to be expected. Delays in getting to the Horn...will have to wait until next year :)

Just remembered that this old-ish thread below is a pretty good reference/resource for install/operation tips and ideas for Lavacs. https://forums.sailinganarchy.com/threads/new-pooper-experiences-welcome.236474/ (I first started getting motivated to change the head a few years back; putting this link here - again as a sort of “centralized” online reference, in case it’s got any useful/relevant info for my replumb).

Will maybe post exciting in-progress pics as I go along, working with very cold fingers on a rapidly winter-like, unheated boat :). Must get this done before planned Xmas time cruise...a bucket won’t cut it then.

Fun fact (told to me by the distributor for Lavac). They used to have their bowls made by famed porcelain (I.e., “china”) maker “Royal Dalton” - probably one of those “By Appointment to H.R.M.” companies. Then they realized that was too bloody expensive and outsourced to Taiwan! Back to China, where it all began :)

An excellent latrine, for a quarter of a century mine has just worked and never blocked. The diaphragms on the newer Henderson pumps, doubtless Oriental, don't seem to be what they were though, keep an eye out for early failure.

Missed the steel part.

I had a Lavac on my Hinckley. I liked it, but it didn’t get a ton of use.
We used to sail on Champlain in the 90's. I suspect you didn't use it a lot because pump outs were far between? :) How is the situation today?

Exactly right. More pump out stations now, and going towards being free, as opposed to pay per pump (which makes me think folks may have been illegally dumping to save $15 a pump out).

Fun fact, that Hinckley once made the mythical front page…

What Hinckley did you have and when were you sailing it on the lake? We used to sail out of McNeal Cove, Charlotte VT. Beautiful! We were just there this fall (by the road).

I had a Hinckley 36 in Shelburne from 2002 to 2007 or so (I think). Then I got the Swede 55, and now Water Witch.

I often sail down to the Charlotte area. Did you have your current boat on Lake Champlain?

Oh yeah, I think I remember. You had a SW'er 36, wooden Hinckley? Beautiful boats, a friend had one here in town for a while.

No, we sailed a CD28 on Champlain. Took it twice down to the Bahamas from there. It never returned the second time and instead went up the coast to Maine for a few seasons. We later moved here and bought our present boat soon after moving. What is the Water Witch and where do you sail out of?
