If the lettering is really "set" try a rubber eraser on a drill. Sometimes time and exposure to the elements can really make vinyl tough to remove. I used the eraser on the trim stripe on my hull. Plastic razor blades would have been tedious for that job.The new lettering and some plastic razors to remove the old lettering are in route.
In another life we used to get Thai stick that had been cured in opium smoke. Dreamy. Maybe I should check Amazon...
FWIW I really like the BoatU.S. lettering tool. You can see how the name actually looks with all the fonts, colors, backgrounds, slants, arcs, borders, gradients and shadows. No guessing.
