to leglislate on issues that affect me with my full knowledge of the outcome .

never signed a fokin blank cheque and never will .

It doesn't really matter what this government, or any Aus gov., tries to do.

The sad situation of outback blackfellas is an evolutionary problem.
As long as there are remote communities with fuck-all to live for except dole day and green cans, nothing will change.

The local blackfellas I know don't give a damn about the Voice and fundamentally distrust all politicians.
They are concerned about their jobs, mortgages, kids, the cost of living. You know, the same shit as all of us Australians........
And yet there are many outback communities that function well.
The voice is a tool. The background work the collective communities have put in to resolve their various issues, Statement from the heart etc, the 200 community meetings and reports from those communities, all pretty much stated that what was needed was a permanent voice to parliament. Their voice. If we fail to follow through with our side, it will be the end of any joint attempts to resolve these problems.

There is no quick or long term fix to the indigenous alcohol problem in remote communities except to remove any access they have to alcohol and to take their at risk children away from this culture so history doesn’t repet itself. But of course when both these things were tried they were called racist and stupid bleeding heart labor governments removed them. That is because the left live in this world where they think a drink ravished, petrol sniffing Abo who belts his women and fucks his children are basically ‘just like us’.
Well they might be just like you leftist fuckwits. Your hero Bill shorten thought he could fuck anyone he wanted to and Whitlam was an alcoholic so you may be right.

Oh FFS!

Another meaningless grab bag of words, supported by zero evidence and concluding with nonsensical, jingoistic theatrics.

Please, Meli - tell us about these outback communities that function so well. How many? Where are they? What is the supporting evidence for saying they function well? What is your personal connection and experience with them? And why, if they are functioning so well, cannot their success be transplanted to all the other communities that are not functioning well at all?

And why would ANYTHING be the end of joint attempts to resolve problems? Surely that is a racist threat! Successive governments have thrown billions of dollars at attempts to close the gap, resolve problems, achieve improvements in living standards for indigenous people - there is no lack of goodwill on whitey's side. So are you suggesting that the indigenous people will cease engaging? Stop asking for free housing, more money and the government to fix their issues?

Have you ever spoken to a nurse who has been raped and threatened with death? A teacher whose house has been broken into more times than she can remember? A policeman who has been spat upon because he is white? A store worker who wonders every day if the store is going to be robbed - again? When you go to your library each day, do you have to hose faeces off the front door step before opening? Do you get called "You fucking white cunt" when you leave the building to get lunch?

Get back to us when you speak from experience.

I was speaking the other day with a well-spoken lady from Victoria. The topic of the day - the Alice Springs crisis, came up and she said "Oh yes, we were driving around a few years ago - I think it was Alice Springs or one of those places, and I have to say, they don't take a lot of pride in their gardens, do they?"

I nearly fell off my chair!
Come to think of it, she reminded me of someone ...

Mate like building steel boats and moving to Tasmania we have all made bad choices in our lives. Don’t beat yourself up about it.

Morrison was a religious fuckwit and had to go. What's coming out about the robodebt bullshit makes me fucking furious as well.

If I had a do-over I'd vote the same way. If you'd always vote the Party line you're the same as ETS who'd never ever be able to vote against even a corrupt lying exploiter of a leader like Shorten.

Hey, Albo is nearly a year into his first term and hasn't managed to fuck much up yet so he's meeting my (low) expectations. This Voice caper is great IMO. It's distracting the lefty fuckwit brigade (no peeking Meli, you know I mean you) and getting them spending a huge amount of energy & political goodwill while achieving fuck-all.

And now Lydia Thorpe has quit the Greens because - something. Even better.

Meli hasn't been as far as Ballarat when it comes to country Australia. So of course she's an expert on everything to do with the problems & successes in remote communities.

She should try living in Wilcannia for a while. Or any one of a number of county places I could name. Just better not leave your nice car on the street overnight and better have a full welded security grille on every window & door.

Put simply the lunatic left was not far left or lunatic enough for her. Even a comunist like that fuckhead Adam Brant understands that if cunts like Thorpe get their treaty, he is going to be paying for some cunts VB for life, just to keep living in his nice little inner Melbourne townhouse.

Lydia Thorpe is an attention seeking militant cunt with the same level of intelligence as Meli, and about the same amount of Boung in her.

Have you? or just read about it.
Again, you paint a whole group with the same brush.

Actually, I managed ATSIC's ComCare portfolio so spoke and worked with more than a few.

Your rant above is really no more than old white people in the 70's ranting about all Greeks, Italians or Vietnamese. Based on ignorance and racism.
You sound exactly like my FIL. Except he Drove with Aboriginal Stockmen, drank with them too and actually had a lot of respect for MOST in that community in the Western District.

Why do you think it was a typo? She is one of the most uneducated, lying and ignorant cunts I have ever encountered.

That's me, age 50. Maybe you better warn your "child bride" about what happens to her when she gets to 60 and people tell her she has a face like a dropped pie.

Another for good measure.
My son and I on Dunk Island. Fishing. 50th birthday treat.

I could make uninformed statements about you too, but they wouldn't be true either.

Are you addressing me? Because if you are, you have a fucking hide to infer that I am ignorant of the things I mentioned, and a racist.

And would that be the Western Desert? Did you know that back in the 70's the esteemed anthropologist Charles Mountford wrote a magnum opus entitled "Aborigines of the Western Desert" about tribes who had very little contact with white men. It would have become a classic, but before it was released a Court ordered every copy to be pulped because the printed book contained photos of some sacred items (weathered stones actually). 2 copies were actually saved, one by Monty's family and the other, autographed by Monty, by my family. True story. Ignorance and racism eh? GFY.

No . Western District.
It's funny how people see things differently.
I wouldn't be bragging about keeping a copy of something that someone basically used in bad faith . I'd think that was pretty disrespectful and racist, ignoring the wishes of the owners of said material and against court orders.
You even "sneer" at the idea that "weathered stones" can be sacred. (I'll give you the benefit of the doubt about getting the content of contention wrong)

"Mountford's final book Nomads of the Australian Desert (1976) contained details and pictures of secret ceremonies that had been revealed to Mountford in confidence during his fieldwork in the 1930s and 1940s.[2] Members of the Pitjantjara Council swiftly launched legal action and sought an ex parte injunction preventing the book's publication in the Northern Territory. They argued that the Pitjantjara men who had revealed culturally restricted information with Mountford did so on the understanding that he would not share it with women, children, or uninitiated Aboriginal men.[3]

The plaintiffs were successful, and judge Justice Muirhead agreed to grant the injunction. He concluded that a number of photographs, drawings and descriptions of persons, places and ceremonies featured in the book held deep religious and cultural significance to the plaintiffs, and that their publication could harm the community.[4]"

Although this injunction only applied to the Northern Territory, the book's publishers ultimately decided to withdraw the book from sale everywhere.[2]

Foster v Mountford was the first of several Australian court cases dealing with Aboriginal secret information.

Name them, o wise one......

I've been to most of them in the NT. Had an ex-Yothu Yindi drummer for a while, well connected with ATSIC. We used to go and do shows at these desperate places, playing mostly to 20-30 kids. The adults were playing cards and sucking piss.

The money was extraordinary, and always paid in cash by the local ATSIC dude. However, he kept half, the band got half. It was still very good money for those days, but I was glad when the drummer left and we stopped getting those gigs. It always felt a bit like stealing.

Yirrkala community at Gove on the gulf was the only well-run place I saw.
They had a total alcohol ban.
People who came back from town drunk had to stay out at the 2km road sign till the next day.
Kids were happy and healthy and all in school. Mandawuy Yunupingu, the lead singer of Yothu Yindi, was the school principal. He did a great job.

I've never been to the NT and don't doubt your observations. It may be similar in WA. I don't know
But the Statement from the Heart is inclusive of ALL the communities across Australia.

I know of communities in Victoria and NSW that are nothing like what is being described.
Condah, Framlingham and one in NSW "that I cant remember the name of) where a friend of mine lives.

There are many many communities across Australia where the local indigenous councils have banned alcohol.
Hmm. If we banned alcohol in some of our white communities like Toowoomba, logan, Sunshine etc, it might stop all those rapes and bashings too and purify our tainted reputation.

The Voice is to recognise ALL the communities across Australia.
So those (not you) spewing vile accusations and sneering at the worst as if they were the whole, are doing great damage. I believe it's a deliberate attempt to taint the entire indigenous community in the eyes of the electorate, to skuttle the proposed change.

This is interesting though I have no idea where the Gov got the data from to make this statement.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are less likely to drink alcohol than other Australians. But those that do drink are more likely than other Australians to:

  • drink at dangerous levels – both over a lifetime and on a single occasion
  • go to hospital for alcohol-related conditions such as liver disease

So, we now know that Meli has never been to Toowoomba....

Toowoomba Regional Council (Toowoomba Regional Council) governs a culturally diverse area. About 59% (or 94,098) of its 157,669 total population have diverse ancestral backgrounds. The 2011 Census showed that the region has 15,753 residents who were born overseas or 10.4 % of the total population. Of those, 5.3% are from a non-English speaking background.
