He boasted before the start that he was as fit as he ever has been.

It seems he was not exagerating !

I'm just wondering. Does he stack food and other kit from ama to ama on a normal gybe, or would he leave everything in the central hull (which I am suspecting).

If the latter is the case, is it easier to gybe this or an IMOCA where half the work is the stacking?

I've missed any mention of the pedal/bicycle system that he's using on the pedestal. Any pics anywhere of it? Where does he sit? Recumbent?I

Yes I think it is indeed easier, I forgot who stated that an Imoca tack or Gybe was 45 minutes or something with all the "matossage"(moving and stacking) associated

Post 78 has some pics, but it is not clear where he sits, I doubt it would be on top of the pedestal handles......

I've been wondering too... Seeing there is a knife attached to the other side of the pedestal: maybe it's just one pedal for the right foot?

maybe he stands in the pedals and cranks with both hands and feet at the same time, kinda like that wall climbing machine at the gym. Why don't other kinds of race boats use pedals?

Looks like there is one more pedal on the other side of pedestal, you can see the footstrap. And besides, how the h*ll do you pedal with only one foot? :p But it looks like the handles and the pedals are fairly close together, I really would like to see how Thomas uses that setup!

Perhaps a seat slots into the bracket on the side of the cockpit?

He does look really wiped out, but who wouldn't. An understatement. Would there be a way to get a rough translation into English?

You ask, and you will get...

"

Conditions are not really easy for the past 24 hrs. Big swell, and winds between 30 and 40 knots. The sea state is not very well organized, and the Indian Ocean is giving me a hard time. I am going towards the Kergelen Islands, one of the least welcoming places on Earth; and it is getting really cold...

Yesterday, I had to do some repair, sitting at the back of the float, horse-riding style, to fix the rudder system. It was kind of hairy playing the tight-rope walker in the middle of nowhere.. But now, it is fixed and well done!

I may not look like it, but as we speak, we are barrelling down at 32 knots.

Those transition zones, from one system to the next are tiring...

See you!

Over 350 nm ahead again. He's hanging there.

It's striking to see how the VG boats have followed Joyon's shortcut thru St. Helene and the big detour by Thomas (and the jibes !)

Sodebo Ultime is really faster than the old IDEC. And Thomas up to the task.

Agree. I was worried 'mild' Southern Ocean conditions (like the last VOR) would hurt his record hopes, but the weather looks to be cooperating.

We'll have to see how the weather treats the current IDEC's efforts. Either way, Coville deserves the single-handed record.
