No wonder all my SAE to Metric conversions don't work... I've been using the wrong kind of math!

I’m not sure there is anything inherently metric about any quantity apart from perhaps fingers and toes. It’s handy because most cultures use a base 10 number system. I realize that time is different, BTW, because its measurement is based on cyclical phenomena, like the solar and lunar cycles. In the metric system, the only time unit officially recognized is the second, whether in CGS or MKS. Minutes, hours, etc. are commonly used but only informally recognized.
