That is probably the coolest screen/divider/whatever it's called that I have ever seen.
Toshio trained as a traditional shoji screen/temple carpentry person, tho later in his career he became more interested in sculptural works and incorporating natural shapes and forms, rather than the rigid & enforced architecture of shoji.

You're an amazing woman of many talents Jules.

If only you were say 40, oh hell I would make an exception for you, even 30 years younger... sigh. ;)

If I ever build anything like that, please feel free to kill me. (It looks like a commercial lunchroom tho, where unfuckupability is job #1. Reasonable for that space, and well enuf made for what it is.)

More and more clients are falling for the whole 'built-in appliance/wall of stainless/servo-drive everything' pitch. I wish they wouldn't. One of my more recent builds is learning there are few Miele service agents in the Mountain West -- who knew? -- to fix their pop-up range vent, which suck and will always suck til the sun goes nova. Miele doesn't have stores, or even showrooms. They have Experience Centers.

That same kitchen has a 30" wide TV built into a picture frame that lifts up on $600 Blum servos and hides a booze cabinet behind. Which is really cool ... until the day it isn't and guess who gets a phone call. :cautious:

I take 35% markup on hardware so ought to just shut up and be glad about clients who demand expensive gadgets. But mostly I want them to not hate their kitchen ten years down the road.
