You were supposed to give up and buy another before it made its reappearance.

Did it laugh at you?
I very nearly did order a new one, but decided that if I did, the old one, (which is barely used) would appear in seconds. Maybe it heard me fire up the computer and heard the AMAZON bling, and decided to show up.....
Yes it laughed. And it puffed dust at me when I opened it.

Why the hell does the shop vac cartel offer no less then four different size hoses and corresponding tools? It seems there is 1 1/4”, 1 3/8”, 1 7/8”, and 2 1/2”. I have the 1 7/8” hose but recently accidentally bought the 1 3/8“ floor nozzle. Went to return it and Lowes had no 1 7/8” tools in stock.
Also their filter bags are astronomically high. The shop vac cartel must be in cahoots with the printer ink cartel. Bastards!

While I’m complaining, I have sworn off anything Craftsman. Too proprietary when you need parts and accessories.

Big Shop Vac!! They're monsters!
When I was a kid one of my uncles had a dual motor Craftsman, you could switch one motor on for regular duty or both for sucking up pretty much anything. It was a beast, big tank also about 40gal maybe but I don’t recall. Haven’t seen one since, probably a very limited market and I’m sure it wasn’t cheap. I wonder what happened to that thing.

years ago (late 90's?) my girls, bless their hearts, bought me a shop vac for father's day. there was a "horse power race" going on in Big Vac at the time. They loved me so much they got me a 6.5 HP, 350kph blower monster vac. sat on a dolly with built in tool holders in all its muscular yellow glory, thanks girls, i love you too. I still have it and it's always been way too fucking big! :D

it lives in my small workshop/garage and finding a place for it blew up lots of under bench storage. I would take it to the lake to do spring boat cleaning and almost need to swing the boom out and hoist into the cockpit with the mainsheet (kidding). but fuck it is big and ungainly. If i had ever filled that can up I wouldn't have been able to lift it to empty! Did I mention I still have it?

It's probably in some cousins basement sitting beside a still working 1960's fridge

Craftsman has been crappy for decades - especially their power tools. Handyman quality at best.

They got along on nothing but their "lifetime guarantee" for a hell of a long time.

I noticed that our mechanics at the FD always got a weekly visit from the Snap On tool truck. Now we’re talking somewhere around 25-30 mechanics. It was always well attended. We have our mechanics an annual tool allowance and they were required to have their own tools. So I asked a few of them if Snap On were good tools. The consensus was they were “good enough”. I learned that with a few exceptions for this or that critical tool they didn’t buy top of the line because they could break, get lost, or walk off in a busy shop. I found that interesting.

also the cordless tool companies.. it seems every iteration the batteries change configuraion and eventually, you have to buy a whole new set of tools as the batteries die.. and also no standard battery connections between manufactures so that batteries are interchangeable

The expensive tools don't swim any better than the cheaper tools.

^^ Spent a fair bit of time magnet fishing. Once had the plastic toolbox hinges fail walking down the dock - that took the rest of the day. Found a few other tools, sadly they'd been down too long
