When I was over there, I never saw his son. Probably because he was still recovering but it hurt to know he was stuck in a world he never imagined he'd be. I just hope this makes his life a little better.

Well, there is likely still some unknown distance so titrating the toys to tenure is a little complex….but oddly satisfying when you’ve budgeted for a lot of years. 😉

I understand the price thing….fair issue……but when you’re retired, 70+ and have an incurable terminal illness……price falls off the table….so long as you can still pay your bills. I tell people…only 1/2 joking that I want the last check I write to bounce…..

Wow. I forgot about that. I used to have a box sitting in the shop but probably gave it to a neighbor when we moved. Now I do a quick sweep, followed by the vacuum.

By some miracle, and some incredibly skilled first responders and trauma surgeons, he fully recovered. Six months after his accident, he was swinging a sledgehammer to bust up the concrete path for a landscaping project where the ramp was before. I was crying tears of joy watching that.

In the early 2000's the late Mrs PB's Mom was at home in hospital bed with end stage cancer. In the last few days she expressed to Mrs PB that she wished she could sit in her backyard garden just once more but there were 3 steps down to the garden from the house. Mrs PB looked at me with that look. I nodded and off I went to gather my tools and materials. By the end of the day I had built a ramp of sufficient strength for her and her wheelchair. The next morning we wrestled her out of the bed and down the ramp and into the backyard. I stood there and looked at her sitting in the wheelchair facing the sun, her eyes closed and face lifted up. It was a warm day and the birds were singing. She was out there for about an hour during which I was able to compose myself and dry my tears. Then she got too tired to sit up so we wheeled her back up the ramp and into bed in the den facing out at the garden

She died two days later. I'll NEVER forget the peaceful look on her upturned face bathed in sunlight.

It was the same room looking out at the same garden Mrs PB passed in 17 years later.

A note on Bridge City quality... it's variable. My impression is they've got some interesting CNC designs, mediocre quality control, and a tendency for over-engineering things in a way that isn't always helpful. I like the try square I have and the sharpening jig, but got them as gifts. I've come close to buying the jointmaker a couple times and think that's the most interesting tool in their lineup, but there's other tools I'd rather spend that kind of money on.

Here's the first sharpening jig they sent me. Was festooned with QC stickers from a Chinese factory. Getting a replacement was fairly quick, but they didn't seem to have parts for the thing to send. Had to ship this one to Oregon to get a full replacement.
