I've had a lot of luck with Dewalt batteries. The only ones that have crapped out were over 10 years old at the time. One made it over 15 years. Both were the older 18v. The oldest 20v I have now is pushing 10 years.

My uncle referred to those a digital hammers because every time he used one, be busted a digit...You can use a portable air tank (Like you'd use as a remote tire filler tank) for small jobs where you only need a few dozen brads, but it's not really worth the trouble unless your job is reinstalling kicked out door trim in condos.
(It's easier and faster to use an old fashioned acoustic nailer...)
