While admiring my lifeline replacement handiwork late yesterday, the blistering brightwork in the background ruined the experience.
Then a lightbulb went on.
I returned to the boat with a card scraper in hand and went to work on the peeling finish. It quickly removed the loose finish. A few more passes on the intact finish and it was almost down to bare wood - with minimal removal of the wood.
But I lost my reason to procrastinate any further...
I have one but it has a curved edge on it. I think I used it as a floor scraper many moons ago.You can also take a scraper like this one and draw a burr on the edge using a file. It’ll peel up curls almost like a plane.
That's what happens when cordless drills are freely available.
Personally, I'd add a few more wraps of duct tape around that drill. Now this guy knows shit about tools!

Needs something to more effectively contain the torque..Personally, I'd add a few more wraps of duct tape around that drill.
Yeah, electrical tape. It’s a little more stretchy so it could better absorb sudden torque loads.Needs something to more effectively contain the torque..
Great photo, makes you cringe and admire his ingenuity. I wasn’t aware (therefore don’t know shit about tools)of the range of devices available for drilling upside down at height. Now this guy knows shit about tools!

At least that guy is far enough away from the drill that it's not spitting dust at him. I'd blow at the dust as I drilled. Stop to get another breath. Then start again. WIsh they had these back then. Now this guy knows shit about tools!
