5 degrees colder was the last ice age 20,000 years ago, 4 degrees warmer 90 million years ago had forests in the antarctic so yeah 1.2 in a century or so is significant.

A lot of Americans don't have a good grasp on the difference between Celsius and Fahrenheit. 1.2 does not seem like much in F, but when you consider it it is actually in C, it is a 2.2F increase. Pretty much double. The other thing many people don't understand is that it is also a global average.
