Total Boat Non-Skid

Has anyone used the Total Boat Non-Skid?  Getting ready to do my decks which have painted non-skid on them that has worn down.  What should my surface prep be?  Heavy or light sand?  How many coats?  The JD YouTube video shows a guy rolling and tipping it, which makes no sense.

I haven’t used Totalboat non skid paint, but all their products that I’ve used are excellent. The problem with non skids is in getting the grit to spread evenly with the roller. You have to apply it and keep an eye on the grit to make sure it doesn’t lump up in places and appear uneven. Applying a second coat makes any patchiness disappear. Make sure that you read the directions regarding the prep, sand with the proper grit and wash the decks clean with ammonia and water before applying the first coat.

Not sure about total boat, but isn't there usually a specialized roller for these? 

I wound up going with SoftSand - very easy to apply. Distribute an excess of sand covering every surface onto a freshly painted surface, wait for the paint to dry, then sweep up the excess and continue. In a time pinch like I was, I found you can carefully scoop up some of the excess after an hour.
Worked a treat, although if you are on a time pressure you end up buying far more sand than you need, in order to be able to cover a larger area.

I’ve used the Total Boat liquid non skid and it’s FABULOUS! First masked off the non skid followed by 2 coats over a dimpled surface that was worthless. Crew could not believe the difference. Best of all it was easy to apply and did not appear to diminish over the season.

What was time between coats?  Additional prep?  Pull the tape while still wet?

It is a stucco roller, cut in length and then rolled gently to pull the grit up.

Put the first coat on yesterday (phone went dead playing tunes so no pics yet). Will put the second coat next week.  Went on well, will be interested to see how well the nonskid is on the first coat. Tough to judge when wet

By dimpled surface, do you mean the factory molded-in texture? It would be great to just mask around this and paint over it, vs. grind it off first.

The reviews of that paint on Amazon were variable. How does this compare to Kiwi-Grip?
