'Triple Jack' rebuild...FU Irma!

No test sail yet, we are still busy bolting on winches and sorting the electrics. Started up the engine and the mixing elbow was shot, along with the alternator.
We will head out as soon as we are ready, likely Sunday.
Here's a few more pics and a link to a u tube offering we have just put together.

The old work site is spookily quiet now, lizards are popping out of the old boom wondering where we are. What will become of the dumbbells? They made the distance! The workbench is heading East with a couple of the tents where Fireman has his workplace.

There is no shortage of wind for the regatta, looks like it's the old dacron main for us, our 'new' carbon main is disintegrating before our eyes. So, there's your history!

OK folks, this is my final update on this very long thread!
We are launched, we have had a good shakedown and we are off to the races in the morning.
I'll start a 50th BVI Spring Regatta thread, we have finally finished the rebuild.

The shakedown was beautiful, it was as if she was just ready to pick up where she left off 6 years ago. Having said that she did let us know a few 'areas that need attention'. One of the mainsheet triangular tangs let go and a couple of other older SS blocks threw in the towel. OMG, if we had left the original SS shroud chainplate 'triangles' in place we would be sweating now. Add the old forestay tang to that...there was crevice corrosion there too. Having complete and utter confidence in the rig attachment points has elevated the sailing experience in spades. The breakages were an easy fix, and we cannot wait to go racing first thing tomorrow.
I'm not sure how many of the registered multis will be on for tomorrow's 'Round Tortola' see the scratch sheet below.

After our shakedown the new rigging was incredibly loose. That has been tightened up today, but we will be sailing conservatively tomorrow. I say that, but when the heat of battle kicks in Captain 'Bully Forbes' will be lurking.

Thanks for all the views and the diehard thread fans who have played their part in keeping this long rebuild alive.

History is well and truly that carbon string mainsail. Dang, we cannot believe how that sail disintegrated before our eyes. We will be racing with our old dacron Quantum mainsail along with a few rat holes.

It is so awesome to see you guys sailing again. Regardless of how things go in the race, just being out there after all these years is a huge win. Well, well done!

Great story. So nice to see all the local support too.

Yeah don't trust those old s.s. bits. Time to drill a hole in the deck and put a dyneema loop and a dogbone for the short term.

Round BVI was sporty.
We had a few teething issues.
The rudder is OK but does not have the bite of the old one we lost.
The clean feel on the helm has gone with turbulence from the saildrive leg being felt on the rudder, especially into the mid teens. Port tack is worse than stbd...she generally feels slower but I guess that is to be expected. Using a knackered old dacron main doesn't help, to be honest the genoa is past it too.
Still, must not complain, it's great to be out racing again even if we placed 6th out of 7!

Round BVI was sporty.
We had a few teething issues.
The rudder is OK but does not have the bite of the old one we lost.
The clean feel on the helm has gone with turbulence from the saildrive leg being felt on the rudder, especially into the mid teens. Port tack is worse than stbd...she generally feels slower but I guess that is to be expected. Using a knackered old dacron main doesn't help, to be honest the genoa is past it too.
Still, must not complain, it's great to be out racing again even if we placed 6th out of 7!

Looks like she held up well and is getting sorted. Some interesting boats and elapsed times in that round Tortola race!

Aye, I knew Guy well, it was an honour.
We won the last race too, so that's a moral victory overall!

It was a great regatta, not a single boat breakage, the 'platform' felt incredibly 'new', no stress cracks anywhere, great rig tension and everything worked.

I cannot believe how fast the turbo'd gunboats are, they have come on a long way.
Nemo too with a reef in flying a hull, impressive stuff. We had a battle royale with Guy Chester, it was great to have 2 like boats going at it. We were able to pinch him off on a few starts but he was faster overall, as the ratings predicted. Our 20yr old blown out dacron main was not really up to the task, a set of new sails are in the offing.

We are not going to St Barths. There are loads of reasons for that, a big one was me being pretty exhausted and not up for the 'ocean ready' worklist.
There's plenty of time for that now.

So, over and out. The boat is fixed and sails beautifully, job done!
