Agreed there should be a limit and it's a moral thing. I lean toward basing a limit on viability, but of course with medical advancement that is getting progressively earlier. Twelve weeks is only 2 inches crown-to-rump.
Since you can't get pregnant, what do you think gives you the right to have any say in it?

Should women be given a say in you having a vasectomy?

We're trying to run a society here. Based on a moral assessment, we've decided it's usually not OK to kill folks who've been born. Discussion about the fate of fetus is reasonable based on much the same logic.

No. Also not analogous to the fetus question.

No. Also not analogous to the fetus question.
It is exactly analogous - the other sex having a say in your personal reproductive rights.

Your personal opinion that a fetus is a person does not give you any political rights or say in a womans health choices.

Any more than Andrea Dworkin's opinion that a penis is an offensive weapon gave her the right to have you castrated.

Or that right wing God botherers have the right to determine what other people read - based on their "moral assessment".

It's all the same thing - someone giving themselves the right to determine how others live their lives.

Play nice Sloop. I'm an atheist, have voted straight Democrat since first voting in 1980, have a life science degree, and have kids. If you can't convince me w/o playing nice, you're not the man I figured.

Your assertion is worth discussing, but the better analogy is this: SloopJonB can't opine about the legality of murder because SloopJonB hasn't been murdered.

Your personal opinion that a fetus is a person does not give you any political rights or say in a womans health choices.

This is a democracy and I do in fact have a political right to have a say in laws about abortion. It's a simple fact.

Any more than Andrea Dworkin's opinion that a penis is an offensive weapon gave her the right to have you castrated.

I'll look her up. My sense is that her argument would only be relevant if we were talking regulating hysterectomies or or not.

Or that right wing God botherers have the right to determine what other people read - based on their "moral assessment".

It's a slippery slope for sure.

It's all the same thing - someone giving themselves the right to determine how others live their lives.

Again, we are trying to run a society here. By definition, that means we all have a hand in how everyone else lives.

If I may offer a slight edit - we all get the chance to offer our opinion (by vote) on how we believe everyone else lives. That does not mean I can expect to always get my way. The word "society" invokes community. Agreement/consensus/compromise is going to be involved.

A man can make a decision to do pretty much anything he wants to with his body. He can elect to cut his balls off. He can elect to cut his arm off. He can elect to have his penis enlarged, or removed. A man can elect to have his spleen removed, his colon resected, and his eye balls altered surgically. A man can choose to have his toes removed, and replaced with a webbed prosthesis.
But a woman can't choose to abort a fetus that was implanted in her by a rapist/incestuous creep?

Because Jesus.
