everything old is new again.  from may of this year:

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump acknowledged for the first time that he repaid his lawyer Michael Cohen more than $100,000 for expenses Cohen incurred during the 2016 presidential election, according to a financial disclosure form released Wednesday.

<img alt="Read President Trump's 2017 financial disclosure report" class="media__image" src="//cdn.cnn.com/cnnnext/dam/assets/180411215334-trump-cohen-split-large-169.jpg">

Read President Trump's 2017 financial disclosure report

The document did not explicitly state what the payments were for. But Trump's lawyers have previously said that Trump reimbursed Cohen for the $130,000 hush money payment he made to porn star Stormy Daniels.
Daniels has alleged she had a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006, a claim he denies.

"In 2016, expenses were incurred by one of Donald J. Trump's attorneys, Michael Cohen," read a footnote on the form, which was released by the Office of Government Ethics. "Mr. Cohen sought reimbursement of those expenses and Mr. Trump fully reimbursed Mr. Cohen in 2017. The category of value would be $100,001-$250,000 and the interest rate would be zero."
Trump submitted the document on Tuesday, the deadline for administration employees to file their financial documents. The agency reviewed the form and made it public on Wednesday.

Trump's representatives said in the document that revealing the payments made to Cohen was not necessary by law, instead saying they were listing them "in the interest of transparency."
The ethics office seemed to disagree, annotating the document: "OGE has concluded that the information related to the payment made by Mr. Cohen is required to be reported and that the information provided meets the disclosure requirement for a reportable liability."
OGE's acting director, David Apol, sent a letter to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein along with the financial disclosure, notifying the Justice Department of the Cohen payment.

So the numerous lies by Trump on this issue are apparent, but does anyone in authority care?

The GOP is led by a liar, who has fired the AG and improperly used used a recess appointment to install a henchmen with the ability to shut down investigations into his lies.

Republicans. Don't. Care.

The difference is that Trump previously said Michael Cohen handled all the details. The evidence now shows that Trump personally handled or supervised all the details of the payments, this is why Cohen is going to jail, and why the law is looking at Trump with very hard stares.

A massive report by the Wall Street Journal on Friday says that federal prosecutors have evidence of President Donald Trump‘s involvement in hush payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal to keep them from discussing allegations that they had affairs with Trump in the past. The report describes Trump as being “central” to the payments, which resulted in Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen being convicted of campaign finance violations for his participation. More importantly, however, is the distance Trump maintained while it went on.

The report cites “interviews with three dozen people who have direct knowledge of the events or who have been briefed on them” as its sources, in addition to court records, corporate documents, and other materials. It says that Trump was involved with or at least kept up to date with “nearly every detail” of the Daniels and McDougal payments, which were later considered to be in-kind contributions to the Trump campaign, as they were made soon before the 2016 election and kept damaging information from the public. According to the report, federal prosecutors in New York have evidence of Trump’s role in the payments, despite his past denials. https://lawandcrime.com/high-profile/what-the-bombshell-report-on-stormy-daniels-karen-mcdougal-payoffs-means-for-trump-legally/

Criminal conspiracy and obstruction of justice. John Edwards was prosecuted for far less than this.

He concealed the fact that he was personally involved and directed the entire process from the background. Wherever the crime was committed has the legal authority to prosecute,  that's how John Edwards ended up being prosecuted in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Using campaign funds is a crime too! and Edwards skated after he was acquitted, not before.

1/ Trump was involved in "nearly every step" of the hush-money payments to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal and he may have violated federal campaign-finance laws in the process. David Pecker, chief executive of American Media Inc., offered to use the National Enquirer to buy their silence, eventually paying McDougal $150,000 after Trump asked Pecker to kill her story. As a presidential candidate, Trump "directed deals in phone calls and meetings" related to the two women with Michael Cohen, who pleaded guilty in August to campaign-finance violations. Cohen also admitted that he arranged payments to Daniels and McDougal at the direction of "a candidate for federal office" with the intention of influencing the outcome of the 2016 presidential election. (Wall Street Journal)

2/ Trump claimed that he did not discuss Robert Mueller's Russia probe with Matthew Whitaker before appointing him acting attorney general. Trump defended Whitaker, calling him a "highly respected man," but also said "I don't know Matt Whitaker." Trump has been in more than a dozen meetings with Whitaker in the Oval Office. (Washington Post / Politico / CNBC / NBC News)

  • Whitaker previously served on the advisory board of a company that "bilked thousands of consumers out of millions of dollars." World Patent Marketing was fined nearly $26 million after the FTC accused it of scamming customers. The FBI is conducting a criminal investigation and Whitaker has "unquestionably recused from any investigation or prosecution of World Patent Marketing." (New York Times / Washington Post / ABC News / Wall Street Journal)
  • Trump called George Conway "Mr. Kellyanne Conway" after he wrote an op-ed arguing that Trump's appointment of Whitaker is unconstitutional because he wasn't confirmed by the Senate. George is the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway. (ABC News)

Mueller kicked it because it was a diversion from his primary investigation. If Trump survives the 'district that can't shoot straight', good for him. If he can't, maybe Rikers has a room with a view.
