Tuesday meadows vote ... Will more repubs break ranks than did so for Bannon?

almost  solid vote from repubs against accountability in the face of overwhelming evidence  - and the veiled dem threats of unmasking the in house colaborators.

Just the usual two defectors.

So I  was wrong again.....

I must say that as a keen observer of historical  fascism this has been a wonderful priviliedge to watch and hear this unfold in English and in real time  as opposed to having to rely on historical reports translated from Italian and German.

I am really looking forward to the public hearings

I was too young to fully appreciate the Nixon bollocks - I will be following every twist and turn of this one.

It's pretty much what I expected. When the GOP refused to announce a platform, but essentially caved into "whatever Trump wants," I knew that the cult of personality and fascism had taken over the party.

Why not unmask House members and Senators who participated in the coup?

Too many of them to prosecute them all individually. Hopefully by hammering down a few of the top ones, the rest will give up and go back to being Republicans.

I don't think that plan is working out very well, so far.

I do believe Rep. Thompson (Chair of the 1/6 Committee) has indicated those names will be released within a week.

Going to look for the cite.....
With the current state if the Republican party, it will further reinforce support from their voters in time for the 2022 midterms.

I assumed that only those repubs who got the PowerPoint would vote for meadows.

Maybe this means all the repub lawmakers got the power point

And kept quiet about it and are therefore complicit.

I am bemused.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn that every Rethuglican on Capitol Hill has received the message to stick with The Former Guy, or else.

It may have been explicit, but more likely implicit.

It likely involves whether they would be able to enjoy the support (especially financial support) of the GOP, moving forward.  I imagine any and all of them fear being tossed off the gravy train.

Add in the likelihood of charges and the hope they can take back the House in 2022.  That would go a long way to stopping this.  The following quote often attributed to Benjamin Franklin sums up, quite nicely, what I believe to be the message -

" WE MUST HANG TOGETHER OR SURELY WE SHALL HANG SEPARATELY"

I'm sure that in addition to not receiving financial support from the RNC, they would be told they would be primaried to fuck and gone if they didn't get in line.

How many non-Drumphista republicans are left in Congress ??

Seems like not many at all ..

Only two GOPPERS voted to charge Meadows (Cheney & Kinzinger)

that is not good.

There is little to no comparison.

It's probably hard to comprehend from this vantage point but when Watergate happened there were a lot of Republicans, maybe most of them, with honour and integrity.

It's not close at all. This is orders of magnitude worse.

Nixon was a naughty boy. He tried to secretly record his political opponent for strategic benefit.

Trump and his team are actively and openly trying to undo democracy.

Why does this puzzle you?

As Trump's favorite poem ends: "...You knew I was a snake before you let me in.".

Anyone with a single functioning brain cell knew exactly who, and what he was before they voted for him, and they still know, and they still support him.

Because, deep down, they want to feel comfortable saying and doing the things he does.
