I get all that and I agree with it but why this guy? The gaslighting that the video documents, verbal commands clearly at odds with reality, repeated again and again as if they would come true (kinda like a Dog topic, but I digress). It makes me think that something about this particular guy was personal. Just a feeling.

The thing that gets me in cases like this is that the cops escalate nothing into a major incident, especially when it’s a totally innocent event. There’s no need for this! I’m sure the Scorpion Unit knows who is who in the Memphis Bad Guy world. The Erik Cantu case is another one. Cop thinks he spotted a car that got away from him the previous night. Call for back-up, but proceeds to approach the car, open the door and order the driver out. Teenage driver panics, takes off, cop shoots, hitting the teen causing major injuries. Had he waited for back up, there’s a strong likelihood that nothing would have occurred. Cowboy cop is fired and now facing assault charges. Teenage driver faces a lifetime of recovery. Citizens now face a very large settlement from the PD. We need better training and better supervision. It sounds like the Scorpion Unit had very little actual Supervision!

He was complying, it doesn't matter what the call was for. His hands were in clear view, he as respondng to commands and they just laid the boot in. It was their escalation of the situation that momentarily stopped him complying.
What did they do that was wrong. FFS

First we both are coming to a conclusion from only what the video shows.
But
Typical police don’t show up with a rifle, that tells there was a level or 2 upgrade in situation.
The perp had a GUN !
The gun was tossed and recovered according to the audio.
Police are trained to use overwhelming force, to the peanut gallery second guesser’s that is not just physical force but tone of commands and body language. If there is the slightest non compliance in a situation like that swift and certain actions must be taken.
The flat foot to the back as the perp tried to get out of the prone position is perfectly acceptable!
The poke with the barrel is perfectly acceptable.
Not sure how you think in those two actions I addressed should have been handled…. I anxiously await your enlightenment
