Russia is not our natural ally in that conflict because we don’t even know what we’re doing there. But the Russians are only half an epsilon smarter than us, maybe. They don’t really know what they’re doing either but they’re closer.

No, Russia/Putin is not smart. If they were they’d take advantage of this energy windfall and fix their own country. Instead it has become a resource curse.
