One of the problems Putin has is he can't use conscripts in combat areas outside of Russia due to Russian laws on the matter. Making Luhansk and Donetsk part of Russia would allow him to use them.

Considering the widely reported situation of poor recruitment and a heck of a lot of soldiers with contracts close to expiring loudly saying they aren't going to re-up, it's a fair guess it's the issue prompting this move.

I saw a report today, maybe also CNN, with sat photos of two temp bridges RU has built across the river. Hopefully they will provide an escape route for those poor RU peasant bastards, should they choose to not surrender. The bridges are too fragile to carry tanks and such, thank gawd.

All army reserve personal with military experience will get a special training and be send to Ukraine. So all the last man with experience will be send to Ukraine. Probably means too all the conscripts that was on their end of the contract now has to stay on the battlefield.

So not millions will be send, and there is material shortage anyway. So feel like he is merely plugging the man shortage gap. This will not make a big difference on the battle field other then that maybe they can start to defend in depth with a bit more man. Reason why the advance in Kharkiv was successful. Only one line of defence.

So more then half of their army soldiers deployed were looking forward to escape winter and Himars in Ukraine, returning home with cash.
Now they know they will have to stay. For ever. And high risk of death.
