So, he is using a "force majeure" clause to get out of selling the one thing that is financing his war machine? And doing it at great costs to repair underwater pipes, whenever he wants to resume selling gas in the future? WTF am I missing with this picture?
.

There are other pipelines, and other customers besides the West. China and India are happy to buy gas at a deep discount.

Okay, that make sense; but still seems extreme to destroy one's own infrastructure; OTOH he could just be batshit crazy by now....

It seems insane to prosecute a war that is killing off a large part of his army and laying waste to mountains of equipment, plus sending his country into a deep depression. Vlad wants to be the founder of the next USSR, by invading peaceful neighbours and totally ignoring a treaty he signed.
And he's batshit crazy.

Absolutely nothing. Let’s hope our Basement Dummy had nothing to do with it.

So you are thinking Biden had something to do with this? I figured you for borderline RWNJ, but now the needle is bending towards batshit crazy RWNJ, along with Putin.

Biden has done a remarkably good job and continues to do so. And this is in spite of absolutely no help whatsoever from the GOP across the aisle in Congress.

I’m thinking that our kakistocracy had at best zero to do with this. If you bothered to read what I wrote, you’d see that they’re incapable of this.

You seem remarkably ignorant of how critical and delicate the NPT is to preventing a global thermonuclear war.

Things like climate change, regional wars and the "geopolitical issues" that you find important are like a goat's fart compared to avoiding nuclear war.

This innocent "faded glory" reaction by Britain that you find so innocent has NPT signatories very concerned. It doesn't rate into your "10 most important" not because it isn't important but because you don't know how critical a healthy NPT is to global nuclear security, and Russia is the biggest nuclear power while the smallest NPT nuclear power rattles sabers as a political diversion.
"Very concerned" ? If you pulled your head out of your arse, you would understand that the Poms are responding to Putin tossing about nuclear response to cover the train wreck he's made out of picking on Ukraine. The UK has been threatened with and dealt with being attacked for nigh on 2000 years, whilst you sit in your safe little bubble wringing your hands and wailing over it.
Face it, your holier than thou Putin has single handedly caused this mess, because ignorant cunts like you and Trump will always find an excuse to let him. At least Trump had an excuse, he's just another low life crook. You only have ignorance and arrogance as a sop.
I'd back the Poms position over yours in a heartbeat. But do please go on, I'm sure there are many more victims for you to find fault with.

it's all speculation at the moment, this from Forbes:

One may be tempted to ask why would the Russians bother with sabotage and denial? After all, hostility toward Ukraine and Europe is neither novel nor secret. The shutoff of gas from sabotage does not fundamentally change Russia’s stated aims or enacted strategy. The answer lies in the strength of Western financial institutions, Russia’s lack of leverage or soft power, and the devastating impacts sanctions are having against Russia. If Nord Stream is shut down suddenly through “force majeure,” a sudden uncontrollable stop that is the fault of neither party, then Russia can void its obligations toward European stakeholders without legally breaking contracts, thus dodging the many penalties in doing so.

The other great reason Putin is expending so much effort in pursuit of such a transparent strategy lies in his domestic vulnerability. By ending all possible routes for gas delivery resumption with the West and making rapprochement more difficult, Russian oligarchs who have not yet fallen out of a window, but may still be wavering in their dedication to Putin, have no choice to acquiesce to his leadership.
Strikes me as contrived rationalizations from an assumption the Russians must have done it. Post war, the gas can still flow through Ukraine as it did before Nordstream. The only winner there is Ukraine gets to keep taking their traditional cut from Russian gas flowing to the EU.

The existence of Nordstream could've been viewed as an incentive by the EU, particularly Germany, to pressure the Ukrainians to cut a deal to end the war with the Russians.

Putin would want that incentive in place, and has had no apparent difficulties in getting objectiing oligarchs to jump out of windows.

I really don't see who benefits from this calamity.

Again, I really don't see who benefits from this calamity. the short answer is NOBODY.

Your theory is super smart and all, but they started on this plan to divvy their fissiles before the invasion and they won't finish until long afterward.

And what kind of curdled butter beans do you have between your ears to convince yourself that Britain’s teeny Trident arsenal would be any rational deterrent to Russia arsenal which is even larger than the USA's?

There are three fully indefensible nuclear arsenals; China's, USA's and Russia's. The MAD deterrent to Russia is not Britain, it is USA.

You unholy dipshit ... you are the kind of weasel who invites your neighbors for fondue.

Who is the most badass UKR soldier? I say the one on the left, closest to the camera. He looks angry.
